I'm in school currently and I love skin care, and Im familiar with a lot of the skin care lines.. but I know their are TONS. How did you pick your skin care lines besides what is offered at your salon? Was it just trial and error?
I know entering a salon you don't have much control over what lines they carry, but Im curious on how you found the lines you like? Im not a fan of BioElements and Image.. I know A LOT of salons carry them, but I want something more aggressive..

Hi Erin!
I congratulate you on carrying out your passion for skin care. Choosing a line of products is a daunting task but it can be done and the beautiful thing is you can choose more than one if they are in line with your goals and philosophy.
I have tried out many in my 15 years of being an esthtetican and the advise I would give you is to really know what kinds of treatments you are going to offer. Are you geared toward more medical? or more holistic, natural, & organic? or a combination of both? Will you be focusing on Acne & Rosacea? or just Anti-Aging in general.
Next, go to your skin care magazine publications and/or Skin Trade Shows and visit the booths that seem to resonate what you want to offer your clients. Also, call the companies and see if they'll send you samples or travel sizes to work with.
Glycolic peels and Microdermabrasion were a hit when I first got out of school and started working and then for some reason I was attracted to a more holistic approach. It took me over 10 years to figure this out but had I not worked in spas, derm offices, laser clinics, and had my own business I would not have had the experience in knowing what did and did not work for the clients I attracted into my business.
Set clear intentions and then go backwards to figure out how to make decisions. Remember, there is no perfect skin care line out there. Pick one or two that resonate with what you want to offer now and see where it leads you. You will know what is right for you and your business. Your clients will listen and buy based off of what YOU are passionate about.
Wishing you the best,

Congratulations on becoming an Aesthetician! You will love your profession! I have been an Aesthetician for several years and have tried many skin care products. Some were very good and some were not what you would have expected them to be. Sound familiar? We have all been there, done that. I have worked at Spas and a Dr office so I have used many different products. Because of that, I formulated my own product line, my clients and I have been quite happy with the results. I use no artificial colorings and no parabens in my formulas. I use as much certified organic products as possible. My moisturizer is also a very good burn cream and my facial serum has cured black mold. I had a client testify in writing, she had been living in a house with mold and because if that she had been going to the Dr. for ten years to get medication for her leg and could not wear a dress because of this large dark patch of skin, after two months of using my facial serum on her leg it was almost gone and the new skin was her natural color. That was several months ago. and the black mark has not come back. So please do be particular of what products you choose. We want to do our best for our clients.

You may want to consider Mindful Minerals. The products are all natural and contain high concentrations of Dead Sea Minerals that are super effective to treat all types of skin and skin disorders. As a part of the Campaign for Safe Skincare, all of the ingredients are listed with information on how they benefit the skin. Another plus is that they are very affordable. The wholesale prices are very low and afford 3 to 4 x mark-up still keeping the retail prices attractive for take-home care. If you are going to the International Esthetics Conference in Miami next weekend you can attend an educational seminar Sunday at 3:15 and receive free products and class.
You should look into Control Corrective. It's a comprehensive, results-driven line!
THE BEST OUT THER IS GLYMED. I WORKED IN A CLINIC FOR 13 YEARS AND THAT WAS ALL THEY USED. I WASN'T AN ESTHETICIAN THEN BUT I DID SEE THE GREAT RESULTS. IT IS PRICY BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GREAT RESULTS, YOU'LL GET IT WITH GLYMED. I JUST OPENED MY OWN BUSINESS (I AM NOW AN ESTHETICIAN) , AFTER WORKING FOR PLACES THAT USED DERMALOGICA & ASST. BRANDS... AND I AM NOW OFFERING GLYMED. IT NOT ONLY GIVES YOU GOOD RESULTS , YOU USE IT AS A SELLING POINT TO SELL YOUR SERVICES..."I USE THE HIGHEST QUALITY PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET & GET THE BEST RESULTS"... I JUSTIFY IT BY BEING ABLE TO HAVE A HIGHER PRICE SERVICE. WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT GLYMED. ALSO YOU CAN'T GO TO ULTA, SEPHORA, ETC. TO BUY IT. IT HAS TO BE PURCHASED FROM A LICENSED PROFFESSIONAL, ALSO GIVING YOU A BETTER RETURN ON YOUR RETAIL. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU. GOD BLESS, DEBB
GlyMed Plus is the BEST!! Been using it for 14 years :)
Hi you can check sanitas, they are biogenics and very active and stimulating.
Hi
Great question! And this is a question I get asked by my clients as well.
1) I look for efficacy, power, results.
2) Ingredients and technology - plant-based (not necessarily organic or "natural". Cyanide and arsenic are natural, but you wouldn't put that on your skin, right? :-) stem cell, peptides, the latest research in ingredients.
3) Ease of use - not complicated
4) clinical expertise and well developed peel protocols
5) CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! They have to be there for you all the way, provide education and if you can't come to them or they to you, availability over the phone when you need it. Great relationship with your rep. Happy to talk to you when you call.
I HATE HATE HATE when you have spent hundreds and thousands of dollars on a product line, and when you call them with questions or problems, it's as if THEY are doing YOU a favor. I had that experience with a European line that I was using that is FANTASTIC! But, they think they wear their pants differently from me, so I stopped my relationship with the company 100%. I recently got trained with 3D Lashes. Not only the training (with mandatory kit) was near $1K, training was awful and customer service is worse.
All companies will make you swoon over their products with marketing mambo-jumbo. I would NOT, EVER, invest on products where you HAVE to buy the entire line or large minimum requirements (anything over $500) so that you can open an account with them.
After 23 years in the business, I am currently using Rhonda Allison. Hardly anyone in the entire state of FL carries it and people LOVE it. I had to create an online store because I can't keep up with inventory. My clients LOVE the products because they see and feel the results. There have been a few lines that have wow'ed me in my career. Rhonda Allison is one of them. Unfortunately, you can't keep ill-intended people from selling on Amazon. But that's a conversation to have with clients.

I am totally confused by your expires date comment. I would like to make an example that I follow so maybe you can help me to compare because this is something I care very much about. So here it goes:
All my products are ordered within a 3 month cycle and sometimes more often. And to the point a product of mine called Soothing Cream is 1% Vitamin K and 10% Avocado. I just received a shipment yesterday and here is the goal for all my products but this policy is more strict as it applies to each and every product by active and especially this product. What I received yesterday should go from my shelf to the professional or the distributor and then to the professional then to retail and then to empty tube within one year. So my end goal is from the lab / chemist to the retail user inside of 3 - 6 months and then to empty is another 4 - 6 months. This time frame is based on MY MFGR DATE.
More to the point, I shipped yesterday to professionals and what they will receive is mfgr'd within one week and most of the time is like I said 30 - 60 days.
I do NOT understand Rhonda Allison and their policy from the day YOU purchase it. Does that mean they have product that they mfgr and sell for up to a year so that means on the 364 day you could potentially be selling a product that is 730 days old or older?
I noticed you said in your post that you did not understand it. Can you help me understand it so I know what others are doing within the industry? Thank you in advance.

I use Rhonda Allison. It's one year from manufacturing date, therefore you must sell FAST. I buy 1 or 2 of each (of whatever products I know will sell). I order when I run out and their turn around is quick. But I do not carry more than 2 items per products unless I know it's a product I cannot keep on my shelf, which there are a few like that. RA runs out of stock at times because they also make small batches. I have a very good relationship with my rep and she explained to me how they work (because I asked, which is something that must be asked as well when you are ready to get a line). So, it is like Marty explained.
btw, Marty, i sent you a private email from belladermis@gmail.com
