How is everyone's month looking? Do you have a special package you are offering? 

Mine has started off slow but hopefully will pick up soon. I just moved in with a massage therapist that is relatively busy so we have been trying to offer clients package deals and she tells all of her clients about my new services and give a $10 off coupon. 

Do you think that I should put a sign out for her clients that says, would you like to add a facial today for X dollars?  Maybe $10 off?

I definitely expected January to be slow because that is the way it is for most businesses across the board and so I was prepared. I even had some side jobs lined up with my dad so that I still had some steady money coming in. Well, the first week was a little slow but last week and this week have really picked up and most are new clients. I have no idea what is going on but I am really excited!! (knock on wood)

I think you should put up that sign. It's a great idea! Anything you can do to get attention to you and your services. Even if they don't book that day, they are now aware of you and that is important. Good luck!

Yes put a sign and even had them flyers as they leave.   I have been really really busy this month so far and am very grateful!

I already have flyers, menu, etc in waiting area, bathroom and my LMT hands them to all of her clients so maybe it's just a matter of time.

My January has been off to a great start.  I work hard during the Spring and Summer to promote more aggressive treatments for this time of year.  I've really been pushing exfoliating facials, such as chemical peels & Dermasound Treatments.  My retail has been booming too, mostly with pigment fighting products, like Living Cell Clarifer ( a necessity for any client! ).

I am so glad to see this post to get other ideas on how to keep Jan moving. I think it's great you are going to put up a sign. I am sure it will help to drive your business. This is my second Jan in business and I was expecting to be busier. I know next yr to take some of everyone's advice and plan and event or two. Let me know how the sign works. good luck :)

Feb will officially be my 1 year so I will have experienced every month in the biz.  Funny thing, I was busier than expected over the summer and July was my best month, for starting out at least.  Good luck to you too!

1 year for me  this month too! I'm relocating down the street to somewhere that will be better for traffic. My 2013 has been off to a painful/slow start. Hoping it picks up by all the free marketing I've been doing and the deals I am running.

It's ok with the move mine has too but Feb is looking great and getting readlly booked.  We are having an open house Tues with 65 rsvps so hopefully those will turn into appts.  Keep your chin up and know that the move will probably help you!  Moving was hte best decision I have made and I am glad I took the plunge.  I suffered a lot financially but my goal this year is to have 10 clients a week by the end of the year.  I dont feel like that is unrealistic.  Keep us posted on your move Kathleen and happy 1 year!!!

I am 8 months into my new business. I was wondering what "busier than expected" was for you?

My January has been pretty busy, people spending their gift cards.  February we have Valentine's specials that I hope keep me busy as well.  After that, I hit slow season, Spring & Summer especially.  Last summer, I barely made any money between July and mid-September.   Great idea about the discount to the massage clients.  I may try that when I slow down.

We have been doing this massage facial combo for $100 and I swear people are eating it up! The LMT is not offering to her people that buy packages from her but for clients that come in for single session...I offered to all of my clients because I figure $50 is better than $0.  We are thinking about not just having it as the Jan special because it is doing so well.  People are tipping 10-15 so it's working out well.
