Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this ingredient for lightening?  I have never used a line that uses it and I haven't heard anything good about it.  I believe it's banned in Europe?  But alot of lines still use it and I see clients that come from somewhere else where they used it and I'm not comfortable with it.  I'd love to hear pros  & cons.

Thanks.

Any thoughts on this?  Thanks!

Jodi

HQ is one of the ingredients that has just enough bad news about it to make government regulators say, "Uh, maybe we should not allow this...". But the truth is this:

1. It is the gold for skin whitening or "tyrosinase inhibitor".

2. There have been studies trying to link it to cancerous cells

But nothing concrete so it is up to you on what you believe.  I sell a product that contains 2% and can formulate for MD up to 7 - 10%. I have searched for a long time for solid proof and so have others in the business I know and nothing as of yet.

Thanks Marty.  My question is this, does it truly turn off melanin production?  I was told it does and then it doesn't allow that cell to start producing melanin again with disuse.

Jodi,

Think of it this way and this is very simple...

You have two countries (cells) and a bridge (communication) in between. Your in your car with a package of ice-tea (dark pigment) and you want to move it across the bridge to the other country (cell).  The use of HQ blows up your bridge with every use but what ever ice-tea (dark pigment) you were able to deliver before the use of HQ is there will remain there until you due something 'else' to remove it. The nice thing is that after you stop using HQ you have a lot of construction workers who will rebuild your bridge for free but it takes some time for them to get started, thus it is always a good idea to go on and off of HQ say a month to three months at a time.

This is the way I describe how HQ works, sorry if it is childish but I am not into scientific words.

Marty, it's explanations like that that are perfect though!  A client asking about how things work or why they have to keep returning will easily understand this analogy.

Thanks! That makes perfect sense!

I LOVE that analogy! WOW! that works. Thank you Marty :)

Love it...It works....so I go for it...short term and mix in the naturals....stay on those longer than HQ~
