Can anyone tell me if I am doing something to cause ingrown hairs after waxing. I had a client come in yesterday that I waxed 5 weeks ago in her bikini area. She told me that she had lots of ingrowns and I got the impression that she has not had this problems from other waxers in the past. I used hard wax. Just not sure if there is a way to prevent this from happening in the future.

Kristin did you discuss ingrowns or have the on your waxing consent form? Did you see a lot of ingrowns when she came in yesterday? It doesnt really matter what wax you use if a client is prone to ingrowns she is prone to ingrowns. Im a stickler about educating my clients about proper post wax care:

~Do not wear sweaty clothes home from the gym

~Try not to wear underwear at night 2 days (or more) after the wax service

~Please dont pick your ingrowns you are making them worst

~Don't apply body lotion or any other gel or oil after waxing at home

~No sex, super hot showers, sexy tight pants or panties for at least 24 hours after waxing.

Exfoliation and hydration is key! Have them exfoliate after 24hrs then hydrate with a thicker moisturizer and have them do that for a few days until they notice less ingrowns then you can have them do it just once or twice a week in the shower.
