I recently finished school, 3 weeks ago to be exact, and i haven't received notification from State Board about the date of my test.  There are a few job opportunities out there that i would love to apply for...but i have no idea how to approach this since i'm not licensed and may be  waiting a month to take my test. What should I do? Apply anyway? TIA

I am not sure what the rules are in your state, but here in IL we are able to work up to 6 months before the test so long as the State has all your info (transcripts, etc) and you are paid and signed up for the test. Our school mailed all the paperwork certified mail and when I got the receipt of them having it, I was good to go. Hope that helps! Mad Luck!

Once we apply in PA to take our boards, we are issued a temporary license to practice.  Some employers will be open to hiring you prior to boards, some won't.  But apply, go on interviews and you can gain that experience!  Good Luck!

Still go on interviews and maybe work front desk to learn the behind the scenes approach in the salon (if they are in need of extra help) then get out onto the spa floor as an Esthetician when you get your license.  We used to have a few girls do that at my old Spa.  It helped them understand the ropes etc...

I agree with Claire. I'm a recently licensed Esthetician and was working as a receptionist while tending to facial waxing clients at a mainly-waxing salon. After 4 months working there, I believe I'm ready to work on my own clients.

Learn behind the scenes first to mainly listen to how the other professionals talk to their clients. That was what I took away from working from the bottom.

Thanks everyone! I sent my resume/cover letter out this morning to 2 places. One called me a few minutes ago and I have my first interview on Friday.
