Just got out of school and need advice. Please read and reply.

Hey evryone, I am a new esty in the field and I had some questions.

1.getting people to come into the spa.

I am currently going to be on groupon and living social this week and I hope it picks up.

2. Went to school not having a ob and now I do not have money to buy supplies and product I need.
Should I contact company's asking for samples to get me started? ?

3. I have made flyers and business cards, gave free tans away to promote and I hear everyone is really interested but they are not calling to book. How should I approach them.

Any advice would be wonderful!

Sarah,

My advice would be for you to get a job to supplement your need for supplies, products and equipment.  I hope someone else is giving you a roof and food!  LOL!!   Seriously tho' there is no way to have a business without basic necessities.  One place to start would be Botanical Science Technologies for product.  Good stuff at very reasonable prices to start out.

You need to make a business plan.  It's too bad THAT isn't taught in school, right?

I may add more later,

Sarah -  I am brand new as well.  I totally can relate to not having start-up costs, and needing clients.

The first thing I would say is DO NOT do the Groupon or Living Social deals.  You can actually end up losing money and wasting your precious product (that you say you can't afford) on deal hoppers.  For example - you sell brazillians at half your normal price - Groupon takes half that amount - that leaves you with 25% of your "usual" price to cover the cost of wax, sticks, paper, your products, your time, etc.  You might as well be giving free brazillians and hoping for a tip. (Don't do that either - just a comparison.)

I am sure you will get some good advice on how to best get product...  I am lucky that I have some of my student kit supplies left, I also made a few purchases from Skin Script that got me going.

Best of luck to you.  I look forward to the advice you get for this question.  I just hate to think of you falling into the Groupon trap and losing money in the process.
