I just opened my own spa studio 6 weeks ago and brainstorming as well. I came from resort hotel spa's for the past 16 years so I am in the same boat. Love to toss aroud some ideas with you! I know that Groupon, Living Social etc are great to start. From the friends I know that have their own room, they all say you have to give away a lot to build clients whether it be your time or product. My cost per treatment is low and for add on's ( arm massage, foot scrub, aromatherapy scalp... ) I buy in bulk so it doesnt cost too much extra. I hope this helps!! :)

Our spa took Our highest facial treatment (a machine that sculpts and drains) and broke it into 3 smaller services. We charge a $125 -$199 for this facial .  We took 3 areas of the face eyes, neck and jaws and made these areas stand alone services for $45 each. Our gals explain do before and after photos, encourage a package of  buy 5 get one free and they should come in twice a week for maximum results until their level of lift is achieved. Best part for client is on the 3rd service we give another free area as a special thanks. The client loves thieir results they will always add this other area to their next service and 75% add another package. So new clients love results, rebook, retail to maintain results and cross sell easily. Www.mysilhouettespa.com

Thanks Charity I looked at the website and your spa offers a lot of great services.

Thanks for the info.  I did put in for some of the groupons I guess I just have to be patient for them to get back to me.  I have heard the same thing about giving away and discounting services to get them in the door and to offer a good ref program so I will be working on that.  Can I askwhat products you use and  where you buy your products and what protocal you use for the foot scrub.  My room is a dry room so I have been looking at different hand and foot treatment ideas have you seen the eco-fin for hand and foot treatments?

I use Skin Authority for back bar and a Pumpkin peel from a medical company ( I dont retail the Pumpkin products ) but I do retail all of the SKin Authority. I also make a toner for sensitive skin/ post wax that I retail as well.

For a foot treatment, I use a salt scrub that I make using either Rosemary or Lavendar depending on what my client chooses. Removal using warm towels and then heated aromatherapy scented moisturizer for after. Because its just me, I am always looking to find creative ways to upgrade that you may find in a high end spa. I havent seen the Eco-fin hand and foot tx. I will take a look. :) What are you currently using for products? Do you retail them as well?

I am also trying to find upgrades but I am just making my menu so I am trying to be a little creative.  The eco-fin is from universal comp.  I am currently using skinscripts but they do not have any body care products so I need to add one.   I prob won't keep stock of retail products to start I have min room but skinscripts will ship to the client for me and the shipping is only $5.00 and they are here local for me so I can always pick things up which makes it nice.

Thats great! Makes it easy when they are local, SKin Auth is local to me too. :) I would love to offer a body treatment but my room is so small. Down the road, I would love to have two rooms. One for facials, other for body... in  a perfect world :)).

For body treatments if you wanted to do a wrap or something, Lotus touch makes a seaweed detox gel.  You could use this with ace bandages (put on ace bandages and put them in a crock pot to keep warm, wrap client and then do a facial tx while wrapped.  I learned this in school.  I actually just ordered for myself from massage warehouse (cheapest that I found).  I was thinking that after I work out at the gym, I was going to apply and sitin the gym sauna.  I will let you know if I see any results :).

oh and it's not a messy cleanup, you could probably leave on or massage into client or remove with warm towels.
