I am a student and would love to hear from some of you who decided to run your own business from the start and made it a success. I am the single parent of a special needs child and being able to schedule appointments around his therapy sessions, tutors, etc. is of utmost importance to me. For this reason I would really like to develop my own practice, although I know it will be slow going to start with.

A very successful esthy friend started a waxing business in a small room she rented in a yucky building and just a few short years later has two wax salons in prime locations and is getting ready to possibly sell them and will never have to work again. She also worked daylight til dark while doing so. It took a lot out of her and she's exhausted. I'm not looking to be quite that ambitious.

I'd just like to hear from those who graduated, got licensed, and built a decent practice on your own. Toot your own horns, friends! Let's hear it!

Hi Jennifer,

Its been less than a year since I opened my suite.  I've been an independent contractor a few years prior.  I can say it is a lot of hard work.  It requires networking beyond friends and family, so get ready to mix and mingle :-).  You will wear many hats.  So if you trust and know people that you can utilize their talents, don't be afraid to ask for help.  I am still a work in progress, so if you have any direct questions, please feel free to reach out.  Here's the link to my website.
