Getting so many mixed responses to this one! Do you have to be a licensed Esthetician in CALIFORNIA to do individual lash extensions on clients? Some people say 'no' you just get certified, some people say 'yes' you do have to be licensed. Does anybody know the real truth? We are holding a debate in the office and SBoard website gives no up to date information! California license you for everything (including the air you breathe) so pretty positive they will require you to be licensed.....yes/no???

As far as I know, Lavish Lashes requires you to be a licensed Cosmetologist or Esthetician to attend their classes and provide their services. So, I guess it depends on the brand.
I don't know the answer to this specific question, but generally when there's a question about licensing it's always best to go straight to the source, since they're the ones regulate the profession in the state. The California state board can be reached at 800-952-5210 or barbercosmo@dca.ca.gov.
Their website gives no info on it...I might call just for my curiosity (but you know what they say about 'curiosity killed the cat' and I will prob be on hold with them for a few hours?! hahaha Thanks though Abram and thanks for your response Cat (didn't know that about Lavish Lashes). I DO know of one lash school close to me that don't require students to be licensed. This is why it gets confusing. Nobody knows their a** from their elbow on this topic! :) :) It's all good...I will keep doing research until I get it from the horse's mouth (State Board)
It is my understanding that the California State Board does not regulate eyelash extensions. Like Lavish Lashes, we offer certification classes in California to students who are currently in beauty school and to licensed professionals to become a lash extension artist. Certification is given by a company not by the Board. Our brand is JB Lashes.
Interesting question. I believe that this just changed this year in TX. Here is what happened in TX (perhaps CA has similar new laws?) Sorry, I know you are asking about Cali but I thought this was interesting and a good thing, since eyelash studios are popping up on every corner here and weren't regulated until recently.
Thanks to all who helped me with my query. BUT, we did find out from the horses mouth on the phone (State Board) what the rules are for anybody who wants to know.
In California "Anybody can do eyelash extensions on a client as long as it's not performed with the following: Hot iron, scissors, brushes or shampoo!"
Maybe @Emilie one day Ca might follow the same as TX. Who knows? I am just happy my query was settled so i can sleep at night! :) ;)
That's interesting because when I contacted the California State Board they emailed me that you had to be a licensed professional. Now I'm confused.
what is the school you are going to? I am in the bay area and would love to take classes. Thanks!
