Hi Everyone:

I have gotten some great knowledge on this site.  I am trying to decide whether to let go of my stable job that I have had for many years, which  that I hate, to follow my dream.  I am working part time in a spa right now but I am working all the time.  It is just too much trying to balance my other job and be available when clients need me.  My other job is very demanding.

I really do not want to give up my spa business but I am worried about going at it full time.  I feel like I am not having time to get out there and market because of my time constraints with my other job.  At this point, I feel like one of them has to go.

Just wondered if anyone else had this issue and how it worked out for you.

Thanks for the input.

I guess the only thing I can say is to go for it! You will never be able to work fulltime at the spa if you still have another fulltime job. I am sure the spa job could open into many more hours if you were available. Plus, if it is your dream as you said, then you will feel happy and fulfilled and that is worth so much! Since becoming licensed 5 years ago I have only worked for me...it can be a struggle to get your name and reputation out there, but it is a labor of love and so rewarding. You can do it! Dreams deserve to come true :)

How would you feel in 10 minutes if you didn't follow your dream?  How would you feel in 10 days, 10 months and then TEN years from now if you still didn't follow your dream?   Go for it!   On your death bed (which i certainly hope isn't soon) you will NOT be saying "I wish i had spent more time in my crummy, demanding job"!!

Exactly. I got into this at first because I told my husband I didn't want to die never experiencing a job that I loved!  It is great to hear input from others in the business! :)

There are so many good comments already made here but I'll still add my own.  If you try to balance both, one suffers.  Jump into it with both feet and be enthusiastic, it's contagious!! The clients will come.

What comes to mind instantly is "follow your dream." My situation was different as I was laid off and then enrolled in school.

It takes hard work and courage to make it happen but remind yourself daily why you love this business and how hard you will work to be your own boss.  You can only realize this dream if you allow yourself enough time in the day to make it happen.

Angela, I made the same statement to my husband!  I didn't want to miss out on my dream job.  I made tons of money in my previous life but since I made the decision to go out on my own, I've never been happier.

I walked away from a really high paying job of 7 years to go back to school for Esthetics and now have not had a paycheck in a year April.  I have had to lean on my boyfriend for support, especially financially.  I have NEVER had to worry about money like I do now which I hate, but I keep saying I will get through this challenge.  I rent my own room now and it's definitely a struggle but aside from worrying about paying the bills I LOVE what I do and wouldn't change a thing, well except having more clients.  I just hired a business coach to help me, because I don't know the first thing about how to do this owning a business thing :).  Definitely follow your heart.  No amount of money in this world is worth being miserable at your job.  If you are miserable at a job, it will then make you feel miserable in general and will affect everything around you.  If you leave your job, you will walk away with your head held high.  Money is GREAT but is your happiness worth it?  I don't think so :).  I am sure your family will support you 100% of the way and if money gets tight, you could always pick up more hours at the spa or at another spa, or start doing things on the side like girls nights or something to make a little extra money, or pick up spray tanning.  Just some thoughts.  Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks Sheila! yes business experience is so helpful.  I have been running the business end of my husbands business for about 10years.  It definately takes time to build up your business.  I have been making regulard paychecks at the spa already I just need to make quite a bit more.  I can always do something part time though.  My husband and I have attended some of the SCORE free seminars and they have been very helpful.  They also offer free mentoring so maybe that would help you also.  Good luck to you and thanks for the advice!

I personally think the most important thing to being successful is your attitude, your thought patterns....the more you think about what you don't want, what scares you, how busy you aren't...the more of that you'll get. Keep focused on how much you love this industry, how much you love helping people, how great it is to have the freedom to run your own business, etc.  You'll be amazed at how things begin to change!! I totally agree with Denise...enthusiasm is contagious.
