I did a light glycolic peel (Image) on a client, she is concerned that if she doesn't peel then it was a waste of time.   How can I professionally explain to her that there are still benefits to the treatment even if she doesn't peel.  I did follow protocal and I explained what results to expect etc........

A fellow Esty said this to me one day in a conversation and I just love it...Progressive not Agressive.

Explain to your client that you prefer to do lighter peels that are more gentle on the skin (no down time) but in the end produce fabulous results. Hope this helps!

Thanks Shelley,

That is basically my philosophy when it comes to first time peels.

Let her know that the peel is dissolving skin cells while left on the skin in the treatment room.  Yielding softer and exfoliated skin.  You can always apply the Total Retinol-A creme and Retinol enhancer to increase sloughing.

Beth,

thank you  so much for the feedback.  she is coming back in this week, i think i will try the Total Retinol-A and retinol enhancer.

tell her she is peeling microscopy....and if she wants peeling put her on a peel prep program in between sessions before her next peel. my favorite products are a retinal or a tretinal from glo therapeutics. try that she'll peel. good luck. Angie

I think that's a common misconception.

I always explain what "peeling" will look like....that there won't be sheets of skin peeling off of their face...that it looks more like dry skin flaking off (if there is anything at all).

As long as they are clear on what to expect AND how to properly care for their skin during this time they usually get it.

If they want something more dramatic then they will have to go and pay $1500 for a laser peel from a doc and have the two weeks down time plus danger of infection and scarring...now that sounds like fun...
