Hello everyone-

Today I received a call from a woman looking for help in extracting her son's milia around his eyes. He is 15 and apparently gets hundreds of these (poor kid!)

I opted to refer her out, as I am not comfortable performing that extraction on that delicate tissue, and have not been properly trained on a lancet.

Any input on treatment for this condition- what causes it- where to get trained to remove it (I'm in Cincinnati OH)- anything?

Thank you!!

Hi Gina~

I have had personal experience with milia, my daughter too occasionally gets them around her eye. I took her to a derm and she did not want to remove them because of the area, however she said she would but that it would be painful and ultimately left the decision up to my daughter which of course opted out. Milia is trapped skin cells, better skin care products or exfoliation may help the problem, but not always. Sun exposure can also be a culprit. In school I tried to use a lancet to remove a large milia on a classmates forehead, but had no luck. They are tuff to remove and I think you made a good decision in referring this client out to a derm.
