Missouri's proposed bill HB 590 would deregulate barbers and cosmetologists (including estheticians), allowing anyone to practice or teach these professions with no license or training! This is not only a blow to our profession, but a serious public safety issue. Professionals and their clients should be concerned about the devastating impact this bill could have, if it is passed.

A public hearing has been scheduled for Thursday morning, at 8 a.m. in House Hearing Room 4, in the basement of the Missouri State Capitol. We need to have witnesses in attendance to testify in opposition to this bill. We encourage you to attend, to contact your state representatives to voice your disapproval, and to encourage your clients to do the same. The general public should be just as concerned about the impact of this bill on their ability to receive safe and sanitary treatments, and with public involvement we stand a better chance of defeating this proposed legislation. Get your clients to support you!

We urge you to share this information widely by email, on Facebook, or anywhere else, and stop this bill!

You may also voice your disapproval of the proposed bill by contacting Andrew Koenig at andrew.koenig@house.mo.gov or 573-751-5568.
