Mobile Spray Tan/ DHA and DNA Damage

Hello my fellow Estis!

I am looking for advice (the been there/done that) and ideas on how to carry out a successful spray tanning business with limited resources. I am very familiar with spray tanning- I have been personally spray tanning for over 10 years, and have used numerous machines once I became an esthetician 2 years ago. I am looking to develop a little niche in my area where I live so I can make some extra money. I want to have tanning parties, have my girlfriends tell their girlfriends, along with regular clientele. I don't have a lot of money to market myself or make printed materials, but I want to know...what are the essentials to be successful? What do I need to have? What do I need to do? Thank you in advance for your help!

P.S. I have the spray tan machine from Sun FX and a tent as well.

I would start with the parties, maybe just have a party with all of your girlfriends, charge maybe $20 a tan depending on how many girls. Then you can mention that they could have spray tanning parties and have the hostess tanned for free. I would have things like personal cleansing wipes to remove any lotion, makeup or deoderant, just incase they don't come without it. You could also start telling your clients about it and post on your facebook page. Just some thoughts. I am actually thinking about getting into tanning parties as well. Also, hook up with some other local party people, maybe a Purse person, or jewelry and have a whole girls night in type of thing.

On a side note, how do you feel about the research that just came out about the DHA leading to DNA damage? Do you ever use any tyoe of nose plugs or avoid the face area? I thought, ohhh NO when this article came out yesterday. Just curious what people are doing or sdaying to their clients. I know my company that I purchase my spray tanning from does have an organic blend that uses caramel for the stain but I am not crazy about how much longer it takes to dry and is slightly sticky. SOrry to get off subject.

I was quite shocked to read the article as I JUST purchased my machine at the LV Trade Show! I do find the article to be scary- and my ethics as an esthetician could be in question if I continue to spray and know the recent data. But perhaps a waiver and providing the nose plugs, lip balm and eye coverings is enough for clients to use at their own discretion? What do you think? I always spray clients' faces unless they don't want it done. I have found that the organic blends don't provide the same results too, go figure.
