In the state where I am from, most dermatologist like for you to have some medical background.  A friend of mine is an estheitician but also a medical assistant and that is how she got in the door with the doctors.  You may want to talk to the office manager of some of the dermatologist in your area and see what their doctors would require and also what your state laws are.

Having started my career in a Derm office 20 years ago I would like to encourage you to keep seeking this path.  As far as the experience needed, you will find that a doctors office is no different from the spa environment.  Some will want only a seasoned service provider, some will not require you to do anything you are not capable of with the skill sets you currently have - or will train you as you go. 

In order to best answer your question, tell me a bit more about your experience.  Have you just graduated and if so what was included in your education on a paramedical level?

Thank you for your help! I graduated a little over a year ago. When I got my licensed I started working right away. I have worked in day spas, salons and massage clinics that recently added facials. I have taken additional esthetic classes. I learned how to do chemical peels and microdermabrasion. I have learned 4 skincare lines. That is where I am at right now. The reason I have worked so many placed is because I couldn't afford booth rental. I would work one place until my savings was gone and move to another as soon as I got money again. i am currently working for an hourly wage at a Massage Envy in So Cal. Please tell me anything helpful to reach my goal of working with a Dermatologist. Thank you!
