Does anyone have any imput on this new Nerium cream?

It is all a buzz in my area and I know it is not a professional product and can be sold by any one licensed or not. I believe it is one of these pyramid schemes, but what is your thought on the product itself and will it come and go just like Arbonne?

I feel that any effective product that really works is going to be a professional or pharmaceutical grade and not one that Gramma Jones  can sell out of her basement.

Any thoughts???

Agreed
I'm going to reply because after our previous discussions I did some research on the product in more depth and have some new things to add.

Direct Sales:

Nerium is an MLM (Multi-level-marketing company commonly known as a "pyramid scheme"). Which means you make money or earn bonus rewards for direct-selling the product and enticing new "brand-partners" to the company. Nerium in particular offers a Lexus and iPads as rewards. You can buy in to the company in $500 or $1000 increment packages and direct sell the product. Your goal is to get clients to commit to an auto-pay of $100 a bottle per month by delivery.

What Makes it Different:
Most of the ingredients in the product are commonly used in a vast majority of skin-care products. The ingredient that sets it apart is the "proprietary" (meaning their way of blending two or more ingredients) blend of Nerium Oleander Extract with aloe (another common ingredient). Oleander is a well known flowering shrub (also known as dogbane) that is highly toxic when ingested and/or touched. Ingestion can lead to death. Both types of Oleander are poisonous and the entire plant from bulb to flower contains the toxin. (Wikipedia)

Oleander in Cancer Studies:
Nerium Oleander has been apart of folk medicine for centuries despite its toxicity. Oleander extract has been found to cause apopstasis (cell-death) in a few types of cancer cells. It is still in early stages of cancer treatment studies as being effective at slowing or stopping the growth of certain types of cancer. As of this time, a cancer treatment drug Anvirzel (a parent company of NeriumAD) has not been tested on humans and is not approved by the FDA. (www.cancer.org)

MDAnderson:

Much of the marketing for NeriumAD mentions the studies on Nerium oleander extract done by Dr. Robert Newman at MDAnderson Cancer Center. Dr. Newman then entered the private sector to be affiliated with Nerium International and endorses the product. MDAnderson, however, has made a public statement making clear that it does not endorse the product or make claims to its effectiveness. You can read the statement here (http://www2.mdanderson.org/cancerwise/2012/08/setting-the-record-st...)

Critical Reception:

Many questions have been raised as to the effectiveness and safety of the use of Nerium Oleander extract on the skin. Answers are still unclear due to the lack of peer-reviewed studies and blind trials of the product. What is known, however, is that Nerium oleander extract causes massive oxidative stress on all types of cells, cancerous and healthy. High levels of the toxin lead to cell death. If the toxin is absorbed into the blood stream it can cause cardiac failure from heart blocks. The exact level of Oleander in NeriumAD is not public knowledge.

If Oleander extract causes oxidative stress to the skin's cells, it is also promoting inflammation and accelerated aging. Inflammaging is a commonly used slang term used by skin care professionals to describe inflammation that can seemingly reduce wrinkle lines with erythema, or swelling of the skin. As the skin swells, lines appear to be reduced. The constant state of inflammation, however, induces accelerated aging in the skin. After discontinued use of the product, the swelling subsides and the skin returns to as it was before.

Hope this helps. :)
Thanks, I haven't been on the site for a while and didn't realize it's been a heavy discussion.thanks for the link
Go to www.beautypedia.com. They will hep you understand the product.

I had a rep come into my spa trying to get me to use and sell it. She left me a bottle to try for 2 weeks and was positive I'd become a believer. Much to her dismay, I hated the product. The consistency was nothing like I had ever used before. I tried it for 2 nights...then went back to my professional products :)

Any over the counter product is limited to an effective ingredient. 2% they claim your skin Must be moist for the amazing results.... Well, thats true with any product. Its a pyramid. I highly advise anyone to save their money. There are many lines that are professional grade, result driven products. For not much more theycan get an entire line for their skin type.. Keep your focus on your esthetics business, build your clients trust in providing great services and professional products, not selling a product that you get excited over because you want a car, and end up driving your clients away by hounding them.
I was just going to leave my comment about this topic but after reading Tammi's comment, I don't even have to. Very well said. I completely agree.
Thank you Nina. I have to say I absolutely hate it when someone gets on here and uses this (or other sites to be so negative and just complain however, i was compelled to comment on Nerium simply because I truly hate to see fellow esti's waste their money by getting caught up in "the hype' and loose focus. I myself have blown plenty of money on equipment, products, supplies, etc...that end up being a waste, and end up not even using it, and at that very moment I just dont use my head.....guilty as charge. But over time you do realize what and when to spend money wisely on. So if an esti would like to try other products....please use your common sense. There simply is no common sense in an over the counter/pyramid product. I actually tell my clients that I really dont care if they use a product other than the line I carry.....as long as they use a professional grade product that will deliver results. And hearing that....they generally switch to mine because they know im not just trying to push my line, but it is the importance of a quality line that really matters. ;)
