Hello, I am a brand new esthetician and am getting more and more confused about a skin care line to purchase. I don't have the luxury of purchasing something that is not going to be effective (limited budget). When talking to skin care reps they all say that their products are "the best". Any real advice for a first timer looking to make a pretty big investment? Thanks:)

I think they will be at a show in June that I am going to and I am interested in their makeup as well.  Too hard to choose online.  I just signed up an account with them so I am excited to check out their stuff.  I have heard great things about Osmosis as well.

any favorites or must haves Claire?

They all say "they are the best." I love so many product lines it is hard to choose. Image is very effective and they do not have large opening order requirements. Bioelements is another good one with small opening orders. Dermalogica is a great all-purpose skin care line, but I don't know what their opening order requirements are, but if you are starting out small you can purchase their products for wholesale at their schools.

Thanks to all of your great advice I have decided to purchase Osmosis and Skincuticles. I am super excited and feel much stronger in my decision making about product because of all of you!!!!!!!!

keep us posted with how you do with those lines please :).  Side note, I thought skin ceuticles was medical line?  Just curious...maybe I am thinking Skin Medica.  Good luck!!

SkinCeuticles is simply a line. You can purchase as a medical spa and that means you have to have a nurse or doctor on advisory staff. It allows you a smaller opening order ($2500) and to use stronger medical grade peels. If you don't I think minimum order is 5k and you are unable to offer the medical grade peels.

The other point that I think should be brought up is your clients ability to purchase online. It's an issue. Talk to your rep about this. Companies are starting to crack down on piracy etc. one way they are doing this is electronically tracking the product, then shutting down illegal sites. This will prevent the deeply discounted product online. Smaller or private label that isn't as much a problem.
Reach out if you ever want to chat about SkinCeuticles as we are in the same boat. I love it so far!

i worked with skinceuticals for a bit and really liked the vit c mask, mandelic peel and epidermal repair.  i hated the serums, very sticky and aquaeous.  after my experience with them, i dont undrrstand the hype.  the original developer sold off the line, and it seems nothing new or innovative has been launched since.  more playing with old formularies and making superficial changes to sell retail. and so so over priced.  the aveage consumer cant afford to keep investing.  like i said, i liked some of the line, and use it personally and backbar. but far better lines out there, with better actives and delivery systems...  this is totally a matter of preference.  i know some esties swear by it.

I think everyone has their favorites, for whatever reason.  I know I swear by my favorite line and can't imagine using anything else, but alot of people do.   :)
