For those of you using square, are you running off the newest update? Now it asks about tip and the client has to select option and then they sign. how are you handling this? Usually they are like ok what do I do now, how do you say well if you want to add a tip you can select the option without having it sound awkward?

I have the newest update on my iphone and you go into settings and turn the tip option off. That is what I do.
I know what you mean. I prefered it better the old way. I just explain to them that Square changes it's format and they understand adn it's not too awkward.
Someone else mentioned this but I had already put in a tip option (15%, 20% or 25%).
So this new option hasn't displayed on my register.
Maybe because I had already put something in for tips?
Struggle with the same thing....Wish I had someone at the front desk just for that!
After the card has been approved, I had my ipad over to the client so they can finish it. I don't need to say anything and it isn't awkward for either of us.
Sheila- I'm also hoping this means people will tip more! I agree that a lot of people would not see it b/c we were talking or whatever. This makes it more obvious so I definitely prefer it. :)
My hairstylist uses Square and I noticed that new tip thing the last time I went to her. I actually thought it was good. Especially for someone like me who is guaranteed to get it wrong when trying to figure out a tip amount in my head and add it up - I really like just seeing an easy option to instantly add on whatever percentage you choose.
For the clients who get confused, I would just go with what others said, something like "If you'd like to add a tip it's always appreciated but it's completely optional, just skip that part if you don't want to." I think when people ask, what they might really be asking is "how the heck do I move on from this screen if I don't want to select a tip" but they don't want to sound rude by actually saying that to you.
