I have been doing this work for the past 18yrs and incorporated massage 10yrs ago.  I stretch my hands, fingers and anything attached to my body.  What do you so to keep your hands and body from the aches and pains of our industry?  Any idea is WELCOMED! This old dog is willing to learn new tricks! ;)

Every week on my day off, I go to my chiropractor - he adjusts my hands, wrists, elbows - the whole body!  Then (located in the same office) I get acupuncture, this systems works for me.  Between the two of them they keep me going.

Gail!  I had a fabulous chiropractor who adjusted me just like your chiro...but he moved back to Canada

You appear to be getting outside help for your pain, but are still not getting relief.  It might be time to cut down on the number of clients you see in a day and/or cut down the number of days you work.  Rest may be what your body really needs.  If you have bulging discs in your lower back, it may be affecting your cervical spine as well as the two curves of the spine work together.  Problems in the cervical area can cause pain anywhere down the arms and into the hands.  I recommend a combination of modalities for the best results.  I get acupuncture, cranio-sacral therapy and chiropractic along with bodywork to keep me going after 25+ years in the massage and skincare industry.

I have been doing massage for over 20 years, and the best investments I have made that has allowed me to work so long without any back or wrist pain are:  Purchasing a hydraulic table (having the table at the correct height is necessary to avoid bending over, straining and hunching), also I studied Hawaiian Lomilomi massage right out of massage school, which means that I principally use my forearms, elbows & knuckles to do massage, saving my hands from doing too much work and getting sore.  Making sure that I don't do too many massages in a row and breaking up the routine with other services helps a lot as well.
