Outlook on changing state law to approve Estheticians to perform non-invasive laser procedures f

Hi everyone; I live in NYC and so far NYS licensing Law approves Esthetician to perform Laser Hair Removal without medical supervision. I have been getting Laser facials for myself,  which I might mention are fabulous and are performed by esthetician with medical supervision, and guess what the medical supervisor is not anywhere around.  I have three questions...united as estheticians can a change in legislation be proposed to allow and extend the authority of esthetician with appropriate training and clinical hours to perform laser hair removal and other non-invasive laser procedures in all states?  How do i go about recruiting an on-call Doctor, in the meantime, until the time that this type of authorization becomes a reality?  What is the standard fee to pay a Doctor for this type of service?  I''m looking to open up a spa sometime next year and would love to offer as many anti-aging procedures as possible.  I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts :)

We definitely can unit as estheticians. It will be hard but there are a few resources out there. Check out NCEA.tv, probeauty.org, and get to know your board members. I think the biggest help we can get is education for the public as well. They just do not understand what we do.

Thank you for the web-site info Susanne.  I will definitely check them out.

Sounds very hopeful, MB...Europe is so ahead of the US when it comes to our field...or for that matter the approval of appearance enhancement (AE) products for use by the medical community overall. I can't blame the US for being careful, but let's face it for most of these non-invasive treatments --a medical degree is not required, otherwise we would be not be able to perform these services, even with the direction of a physician...even dentists are qualifying to provide botox injections, what the heck does that have to do with teeth.  All that needed is...simply the services of a skincare professional, a qualified esthetician.  Thanks for your well-wishes on opening up my own spa...I'm very excited and have been doing plenty of research and have so many great ideas.  I will definitely be visiting this site, picking everyone's brain's as the time gets closer and my plans start to unfold.

Hi MB:  That's exactly, my point.  In comparison to alternative doctors, as skincare professionals our line of work is suited to provide non-invasive laser procedures and we are more qualified to provide these types of services than chiropractors and dentists.  Are derms and plastic surgeons trying to block alternative doctors from performing modalities that do not pertain to their area of expertise as well?  I'm going to start researching this aspect and see what I can come up with.  Thanks for the feedback.  ;)
