I have two lines that are already in place due to a take-over situation.  Both of these lines are vegan/organic w/ no professional line.  I am reviewing lines and so far it is down to Skin Scripts, BioElements, Naturopathic, Tecniche (although I will carry this line due to treating oncology pts regardless), Tao Skin Care and one other that I am working on.  Can anyone speak for going with a line that has no minimum vs a line that has a minimum with lots of bonuses/education/etc.  I inherited the lines I am starting with but they cost me some $$$$. I actually had one line turn me away because she said I was too small with one room and one aesthetician.  I don't have a large budget and I am over that already with setting up.  Any experience with starting small and loving it and then maybe introducing a bigger line as you grow? or do you just suck it up and go for it??  I am open to any and all advice!!  I am very overwhelmed.  :)

Skin care companies are under a lot of competition with each other.  In my opinion, they no longer have the luxury of these requirements.  Go with a smaller line that is not for sale all over the internet, and that treats even their small accounts like gold.  Ask your rep a lot of ingredient question, and really get to know the products and what is good for what skin issues.  Become an expert on explaining the science and results of your lines to your clients.  The relationship of trust with clients is the only reason they buy - other than that, they have a million options.

This is a very wonderful reply and makes so much sense!  I truly appreciate that you took the time to give me your opinion.  I was feeling a lot of pressure to choose a pro line since we are opening in May.  I do have two lines that I am opening with that don't offer a pro side.  With all of the info out there, I wasn't sure which direction to go.  This is so very helpful.  With Gratitude, Jennifer.  :)

Hi Jennifer,

You should take a look at my line, Michele Corley Clinical Skin Care.

One of the benefits of going with a smaller line with no minimums, is that you don’t have to overextend yourself financially. This is very important in my opinion, especially when one is first starting a business.

It’s my feeling that clients buy products based on the esthetician’s recommendations, given that the client trusts the esthetician; therefore, I don’t believe a small skin care line versus a big line matters if the client trusts the esthetician.
