Peels on clients that are on oral and topical antibiotics??

I have a friend/fellow Esty that wants a peel.  She has had peels before but I am nervous because she is on Solodyne orally and Clindomycine topically.  She knows technically she shouldn't have a peel but she is wanting on...is there anything that would be safe to use on her?  I have everything from glycolic, salicylic, lactic to Jessner and TCA.  Also, she is taking these things but still suffers from acne (it's not everywhere but when she gets spots it's very cystic).  Anyone have any suggestions?

I assume she is on the antibiotics because of her acne.

Let her know that you would be happy to work with her - but NOT while she is supposed to be following medical advice.

If she wants to give herself a peel then it's on her, but for your own peace of mind I hope you stick to your guns.

FWIW -

I don't know anyone who has gotten clear with antibiotics.  Hopefully she will come to her senses soon :)

Thanks Cindy!!

You could get her Derm to give her a note for you.  I work for a Derm part time as an RN and I asked today about it being contraindicated and he said, "go ahead and do a peel".

I just signed up for your newsletter and class Abigail!  Looking forward to receiving it!

Yup I did check you out :).  I signed up and read the first email about the food getting a bad wrap.  Awesome stuff, thank you!

Great, thanks ladies!  I was talking to her and she said she has very cystic type acne when she goes off meds.  I suggested maybe trying different natural remedies like the zinc, vitamin E, digestive enzymes, b5, etc...and avoiding dairy, but she didn't like that idea :).

I will have her come in this week and let you know how it goes.  Anything I do will be sooo mild to start, like if it's a layered peel I probably wont go over 2 layuers and may not do the enzyme first or the retinol boost after.  We shall see but thank you for the feedback!  I really appreciate it.

She also needs to find out what foods she has sensitivities to, because she does.  If she's getting cystic like acne, her body is trying to detox something out of it. Antibiotics are only making this worse!  Her digestive system is already compromised from something she is eating, and the antibiotics are killing the good bacteria in her digestive system. Also, I know some of the other people on here are ok with carefully giving a peel, but I don't think I would. From personal experience, (I have been on antibiotics for acne, DUAC, Differin, RetinA, Erythromycinbenzolperoxide, Clindamycin, etc, etc. all at different times of course) But I have found any time I ever tried to do a peel, it was WAY to much and usually the skin gets too much inflammation from the topicals AND a peel.  She needs to address her hormones AND her diet.

I talked to her about this, especially the dairy.  She is going to try to cut back and see if it makes a difference.  I know it has for quite a few people I treat with Acne, and myself as well.  She is scared to go off of course bc of how bad it can be and she is a fitness model so she doesn't want any extra flareups but she is going to try to start with the diet and with the herbal/vitamins to see if that helps.  Do you know if there are any contraindications of taking things like zinc or digestive enzymes and being on her antibiotics?
