I have a friend who asked me what I thought about keeping a container of wax specifically for her - that she would happily pay for on top of the cost of waxing her.  We had the thought that I could use a big ol' spatula and do some speed waxing since double dipping wouldn't be an issue.  Or would it?  There would be no contamination from another person, but would there be the possibility of microbes from her own skin being introduced to the wax as a result of double dipping the spatula?  Thought I would see what you all thought.  Thanks!

If you do it for her, would you do it for all?  I can forsee numerous cans of wax sitting somewhere, heating would be a problem unless you can heat in a micro or if you have alot of heaters and space it would be ok.  If it's true we introduce bacteria by double dipping then there would be her own bacteraia as well. Personally and I'm still new at this, I wouldn't do it. You might consider a roller wax, those are legal in Texas, using new/clean roller heads. I was using mine but find I can do better, faster thinner etc. with large reuseable spats-plastic and metal, takes more time to clean them but so far I think it is worth it.

I think people are starting to get too paranoid about microbes and germs etc. We could get totally carried away and get neurotic about the makeup we use on ourselves with the fears that germs are sitting in the mascara wand for too long etc, etc.

If it is just for her and her only then double dip to your heart content.  I wax my legs myself  at home and I am not grossed out about using one tin on just me and double dip away.    If it is just for her and not shared with anybody else then what is the issue.   If you do read too much into the germs sitting there and her catching her own microbes then you should also tell her to throw her toothbrush away after every use and keep using new ones each time.   Get my drift?  Cross contamination is crossing from client to client with different immune systems or hidden skin/blood disorders we are unaware of.    I know plenty of salons that do offer this personal service (maybe it also depends on state board and the rules on this) as we know all states differ.

Here here!  Wonderfully put Claire, I second that :)

Thank you ladies!  It's actually an interesting idea to have wax containers for each client... if one has the room.  Could be a premium service.  Yet large reusable spatulas seem like a time saver as well.  I've never tried them.  Are they tough to clean?

Easy to clean when the wax hasn't set hard. When hard it can be tough...esp hard wax.

You answered your own question...we can indeed contaminate ourselves, but the risk i believe would be minimal, as there's more threat from cross contamination from one client to another... BUT: One thing you could do is the use of beads.  Buy and store bag of wax beads, and use as needed. Plan it so that you finish teach treatment leaving as close to an empty tin as possible.  This way you can fill her personal tin for each treatment, ensuring you have non-contaminated product.
