Has anyone here changed gears from working in a spa providing services to working for a favorite product line as a rep?  Pros/cons?  I'm just wondering what that side of it is like.

Lots of sales- phone calls- emails- selling- numbers-meetings- travel-

I think base & commission for some others have different pay scales depending on factor of sales. From what I see cold call salons and spas- or followup leads- must know the product well for most and will get training. I have worked in cosmetic inside and outside sales but it was years ago before I had Etsy license for a small company. Depends on if you are going to wholesale stores and other business or just consumer too. I also am just answering based on what I have seen/ heard - since I never have been a professional line Rep. Could be fun and rewarding

I would like to see quota/commission base. I'm sure many variables - do your reps educate and take care of you?

I have worked in the past for a product distributor, we had multiple lines that we carried, I would go into salons that we had accounts with and do product knowledge classes for the different lines we carried, I also got the chance to work with the reps from the companies we carried products for and also worked a couple of hair shows in Orlando, it was fun, got to meet a lot of great people in the salons, besides being licensed for many years in  cosmetology, I'm now going to school for my esthetics license, I love the skin care side of this profession and along with hopefully being able to work with cancer patients, I wouldn't mind working as a rep for a professional skin care line, when you work as a rep for one line you will travel alot and also train your salons and spas on that line, so if you like being in a teaching position it would be great to do.

I think I would absolutely love that.  How do you find these jobs?  Just contact lines you really like and send a resume?

Sandy would be able to answer that better- i would do some research and ask around. Most established would want sales and customer service experience and like we both mentioned be ok with traveling. Look into salary and get to know some insider tips-

Talk to your Rep and ask others about theres or for contact info. When i first started on my own was using Bioelements- they seem to hire often. check out the trade magazines and other forums-If you are on Linked In - I bet some groups and companies on there. If not look into it they always post job opps. Look at Biz Jobs and Indeed for sales listings - google away! Good luck!!

Hi Jodi, do you have a favorite line that you like to work with now? that's where I would start, you can also check magazines like Skin Inc, Dermascope, American Spa, they usually have ads on the last couple of pages in the magazine for help wanted, you can also check ASCP's website I think they have a listing on there also, at least for esthetics, I'm not sure about skin care companies looking for help on ASCP's sight. hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the great info!
