I will like to know your advise in this situation.
I met an esthetician who says shes a Dr from her native country. Shes doesnt practice medicine in U.S. b/c shes not consider a Dr. here. She calls herself DR..so so and her nametag says so. She tells clients that they would get a special and different treatment that only a Dr. can perform. and no esthetician can do,just her.
I had a client from her who asked for peelings that only Drs can do. and then she told me that this lady gave her this information. Plus she will put our credibility as professionals on the line.
I have thought about notifying the board, but not sure if I can do this anonymous...Lady is well recognize in the city..and has a lot of credibility b/c people think that shes a Dr. and its safer to go to a Dr. than to an esthetician...

If she's not licensed to practice medicine in the USA then she should not be practicing medicine in the USA ... simple as that ... it is both illegal and unethical.
It would not be wrong or underhanded to report her.
Thing is J, that you have no "proof" that she is actually performing out of scope of practice (other than second hand reports about what she SAYS).
Personally, absent any obvious malpractice or danger to the community, I would not spend too much time or energy in making trouble for someone like this.
But - there are two licensing boards to contact if you choose to...
If she is a licensed esthetician she does have to practice within those guidlelines.
If she is representing herself as an MD (there are other "doctors" out there who are NOT MD's and the title "Dr" is appropriate for them to use...e.g. ND, DC and PhD) and doing procedures that only an MD can perform (and again you don't have any proof) then she can be reported to the medical board for practicing medicine without a license.
Thanks Cindy and others.
You are right I might not have any proof, but is totally unethical. I did covered for her a few days and I answered the phone and had clients asking for Botox parties and others. Thats when I bacame aware of treatments and services that she was offering. In her nametag she calls her self.Dr. so so. But she,s marketing herself as a Spa & Skin care clinic. Its a lot more than this, but I cant disclose here. It keeps bothering me in the back of my head, and I feel like i should do something about it...
Completely with Cindy on this one! Don't put your energy into making trouble...there are soooo many unlicensed nail techs that work in California as nail techs (different topic i know) and i would be exhausted if i tried to report every single one of them. There are so many unethical out there in the world period...part of our sad society..
Just do what you know is right in your practice and karma will always be on your side. We cannot save the world and it is up to the clients to use common sense too and do their own research.
