I've been practicing Skincare for over 30 years. I Used and retailed Decleor , Md Formulations and PeterThomas Roth for over fifteen years. But ten years ago I chose to focus Aging issues and found a fabulous line called DERMAQUEST. They have excellent Ingredients, the best in current technology, excellent price point, easy to retail
I wish I'd found the line sooner. Peter Thomas Roth is ok, but has parabens and added color.

Here are a few pointers:

1. What part of the country are you located?  What is humidity like?

2. What is your clientele going to look like?  What I mean is take the highest percentage of your clientele and their needs and that is your first line. Then so on and so on...

3. What do you want to specialize in? Anti-aging / Acne / Younger Skin / Fluffy Facials or Results Driven

Not all skin care lines are created equal, and most try to be everything to everybody and that is where they lose their way in my opinion.

I hope this helps you; I tried to keet it short.

Elizabeth.

I forgot to mention - be careful of lines that have 50 - 60 or products within the line. Say like one that has 5+ cleansers... what this could possibly mean is the brand is targeting competition and not their philosophy that started the brand in the first place. When I talk about this subject to new skin care professionals I stress this and maybe it will give you also a 'light bulb' moment and say, "Ya, why are there so many cleansers?". Which one do I use, where, what, how... I'm soooo confused. :))

I'm not sure I agree with this.  I currently use Dermalogica and they have 6 cleansers and each one is for a specific purpose or preference.  They also have a basic line, and the segmented lines for specific concerns (aging, acne, pigmentation, sensitivity).  I'm sure they have 50+ products total, but they are very reputable, offer wonderful free education, which teaches us exactly how to use each product.

I appreciate your answer but I cannot go into detail any further.  If you contact me directly via email I will explain but I will not in an open forum talk bad or negative about another skin care line.  I will give overview statements but specific and directed at a specific brand is just not something I can do. :)

I would like to offer you this:  If you look at what is on our face as far as the bio film you will know these items are among the mix: Stratum Corneum Lipids, Cellular Debris, Sebum, Eccrine Sweat, Apocrine Sweat, Microorganisms 'Resident Flora', Bacteria and Dirt just to name a few.

Soaps are pretty much the #1 tool to break this down and chemically allow it to mix / not mix with water and wash it away. So with that said very few ingredients can get past the soap and that scientific fact.  With that said, it is very difficult to allow any of the anti aging or other ingredients you speak of to get through and not get washed away.  Washing with soap and then skin enhancing ingredients are a two step process, they must be.

Also look at the percentage of the active that is making the claim.  In the position that I am in, I would not add expensive ingredients at the highest level to a cleanser only to know that the soap would wash it away. Would you? Can you imagine spending $80 for a facial cleanser when within the first 5 ingredients is two different kinds of soaps? So with that said how many different soap cleanser do I need in a line? One, two maybe three...?

1. Sensitive Skin (No other actives and not more then 10% soap content - there is a proven reason for this percentage)

2. Normal soap with AHA acid added

3. Sal acid soap

Because all of these products are soaps and any active ingredient is only diluted with water and does not need a pressing or firm rubbing on the skin to be effective.  They all work as chemically intended. That is the key.

With that said, here is something you can do:

1. Strongest : Dry Hand. Dry Face. Apply Cleanser

2. Strong : Wet Hand. Dry Face. Apply Cleanser

3. Weaker : Wet Hand. Wet Face. Apply Cleanser

4. Weakest : Wet Hand. Wet Face. Add more water to cleanser. Apply Cleanser

With those three protocols and only 3 cleansers I just created who knows how many different cleansers based on scientific fact that they will work as intended. And will flow to all skin types and fitz scale types.  And I created a cleanser that will work for young, maturing, mature, acne, resurfacing, and even pre-peel.

Goal(s): Increase client cooperation and usage. Lowered my inventory costs. Lowered my expectation of knowledge on myself. Lowered the cost of home care for my client.

Not disputing the reputation of dermalogica or their education.

Thanks for the information Marty!

Great tips Marty! Thank you! :)

Look for a line that has continuous Education...that is not expensive or free and ask about their sample program!!  I used to use glo but got rid of them bc poor cs, lack of education, high shipping cost, and having to spend a certain amount to get samples...you couldn't even buy them.  I learned a very expensive lesson after spending about 4k to get started with them.

Also, you don't need every single product in the line to get your started.  Start with the basics and think about purchasing retail size for your backbar to start as well.

I use Skin Scripts now which I love...also have been using some control correctives.  They have only a $150 min to start or you can set up an acct with universal companies and buy there.  I have used Image as well which is nice, a little more pricey and shippung is a little high, but they have tons of education and nice you can order online without a min I beleive.  Just have to take the peel cert to use peels.  I have also been using Nardos Naturals, a organic line trhat is nice and very basic, no education really though but nice guys to work with.  I have tried PCA, they have great peels and great education but you have to pay, but you get that back in products.  I wasn't crazy about their products like the serums and things.  I looked into Rhonda Allison and while it's a very overwhelming line, the rep was awesome and helpful and they are willing to work with small businesses on the min order.  They have viedos and lots of training  material.

Just start looking at all of these professional lines websites.  You can maybe go to a skin care event like IECSC or International congress, download the brochure, look at who are at these shows, then research the lines.

A lot of other companies probably will as well, you just have to ask.

Hands down, Bioelements. We used this in school and it is the product choice of the founder and teacher who is also a dermatologist. She got me onto my home routine using bioelements when I asked her for her own routine. Her skin is amazing and now so is mine. So is every client that comes in with aging, acne, sensitivities and more. I can customize each treatment and their homecare products with the professional serums. I tried other things after I graduated just because I felt I had to. They are now sitting in a box. Tried Rhonda Allison, Dermalogica and Jansen. Had problem with all of them, or just did not see the results I did with bioelements. I sometimes also add essential oils from Young Living.

Hi!!

This is two years ago, but I came across this as I was Googling Skinprint - someone mentioned us in this forum so I had to check it out as I do my homework at home!!  I do work for the company and am a licensed Esthetician.  I did not hear of the line before I came to the company, but now that I am there - I do not even have to recommend the line - my face sells it immediately!!  I have overall redness on the main areas of my face, cheeks, bridge of nose, chin.  I always thought Rosacea, but they changed out my whole regimen and HOLY - night and day.  I am strictly using their products and am a complete believer.  I was using other products that my derm recommended.  I am unsure if the cleanser and moisturized combined was the culprit of my redness, but since switching back in March to Skinprint - night and day my skin is...

I would love to sell you on the product, but using is believing (Also, BIGGEST THING - We will never be found on Amazon or any other discount retailer, or any online retailer for that matter - we sell only to Professionals).  We do offer a great starter kit as the gentlemen said.  I am not here to sell you on it (OK..maybe a little), but believe me... if you could see my before to after pictures - what took me so long to switch!!  We do offer education and the owner himself arrives and goes over the full product line.  Don't hesitate to ask for me when calling (and NO I am not commissioned based - just truly someone who loves to help out others)!!

Now onto what I have used in my own career as an Esthetician: Repechage, SkinCeuticals, Dermalogica and Botanical Science (BS private labels).  I liked Repechage, very user friendly.  We used it in School and they make a lot of great kits to do a full facial soup to nuts - easy breezy.  Botanical Science was okay - I purchased them originally to use as BB, but not overly impressed.  SkinCeuticals was good to, and Dermalogica - forget it.. .they are everywhere and your repeat business will be tough since they are on every corner with just about every small business I connect with on a day to day basis.  I worked for a few salons and out of them 2 of them, within 15 miles of each carried Dermalogica.

Hope you found a line in these past two years you liked...

Again, do not hesitate to reach out if any questions or if you would like samples...
