Question
Thank goodness for this forum! This is the only place that is for Estheticians to share, learn and grow. (I know there are a few other places on the internet but I don't feel like they are legit)
I want to know what you guys think though...
Why is everything geared towards stylists?
When I need to purchase supplies, I have to purchase online but stylists can go to their local supply (Cosmoprof/Salon Centric) and get what they need. This means that I have to pay a fortune in shipping (it is ridiculous what they charge!) and I can't actually feel or see in person what I am buying.
Online Booking?
I am connected with Styleseat. I love this site for many reasons but I am frustrated that they really only support their stylists and nail techs (sometimes Makeup Artists). I have brought this to their attention twice and each time they have told me, "I bring up a good point" and that they will work on ideas. They even told me what I could do to get pictures. I have pictures!
Business Classes?
When I have taken classes that are supposed to be for both industries, they are not. The instructors talk only about stylists. Now I can take the information and turn some of it into what will work for me but you can't do that with everything because we do very different things.
Ipad/Iphone Apps
They are all for stylists! I think I found one that can be used for Estheticians but it wasn't that easy.
I understand there are more stylists than Estheticians but we are still a booming industry. Why are we forgotten? Why is there nothing out there for us? Am I missing something? On s business end, is there really not a need for it? That is usually why it isn't done but I have talked to a lot of Estheticians and they are just as confused as I am about this.
I have so many ideas and I wish that I could build a business just addressing all this stuff!! :)
What do you guys think? Am I crazy? :)

No, you are not crazy. I've always wondered the same thing, the supply stores are all about hair stylists. The one I get my waxing stuff from does carry a skin care line, but it's 1 option. They don't carry any tools (bowls, brushes, sponges, etc). They do carry cotton rounds and esthetic wipes, but are very expensive, I can get those cheaper at Target. I wanted a white apron (I can't wear a lab coat) and they looked at me like I had 3 heads. I had a black apron I wore, to keep my clothes protected and such, but I think I left it at the first salon I worked at. A white one would be perfect for an esthetician. They don't sell sheets or spa wraps. They do have towels and waxing stuff, which is something I guess. But I agree. I would love a store I could go to to get all the stuff I wanted and not have to pay shipping.
I never looked into any apps, what were you looking for one to do and which one did you find?

@ Jodi...the only place I have found white aprons when I needed them was from the chef wear sites.
They are cotton blends not wipe off though.

There are more of them. Simple economics, really.
Plus, they are different in the way they think. Don't you remember going to school and when there realizing a difference between hair care and skin care personality types? This comment is not good nor bad or judgmental but it is a fact. Those who are in business to sell and make a profit are wise to this and wise to sell to a larger audience then to a smaller one.

I get that and I know that is why it is happening but I do still think there are enough of us.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the way I do things is different and that's the problem. It works though. It would just be nice to be supported more. Why can't things be for both industries (especially when they say they are)?

Great observations:) There are Esthetician resources, they are just a little harder to find, but that is changing too.
I use Schedulemax for online booking as they gear their app toward Estheticians and our needs. Their scheduling app works on ipad and iphone as well. You can check them out at www.schedulemax.com
As for business classes, it took me years to find anything that was meant just for Estheticians. I now have a business coach who is a master at giving you the tools to grow in this industry. Her name is Lori Crete and you can find her at www.theestheticianmentor.com
