I rent a room in a salon and another Esthetician who is on commission working there now. I noticed today that the salon put up signs announcing holidays specials and packages for body wraps and scrubs and facials. I'm new at this so I don't know how this stuff works. I know that I am my own business so what they do is not what I have to do but what is recommended? What if one of my clients sees these specials and thinks they are mine? Or what if someone books with me expecting the special? The Esthetician is new to the salon and the area so she has no clientele. The discounts are much higher than I would want to do. I also always have my own monthly specials but they are not displayed in the salon (I have a book out front that has my specials but that is all that I can have).

I just want to be smart here and not lose money and/or clients. I'm not worried that my current clients will go to her instead of me but potential clients may pick her over me based on prices. This is unchartered territory for me so I need some advice please.

Thank you!!

I am in a room in a salon too.

Not my first choice, they are loud and lots of crazy people come in...luckily the woman who owns the salon isn't crazy! She is a smart lady - but keeps trying to get me to LOWER my prices!

Anyway - IF your lease agreement is in writing, I am wondering if you could renegotiate to get agreements to better signage and promotion.  Dangerous territory I know dealing with an unpredictable owner...but it might be worth a shot.  Try to keep your dignity and integrity by not getting pulled into pettiness. Hopefully things will get better so you won't have to move.  You don't have to like someone to do business with them (luckily!).

Create a database with all your clients contact information. Send them out your specials by email or text. I work with another Esthetician she does her specials and I do mine. When we each do post something we are very clear to highlight which one of us is honoring that special. It works for us because we have different clientele and she does services that I don't and I do some that she does not.

Thank you! I have all my clients info and I send them emails with my specials, etc. It is very clear what is mine. It's the salon that doesn't clarify.
