I am a new graduate and I am excited to start working. My biggest issue is my skin I want to put my best face forward when trying to market. I recently started using Bioelements and have noticed a slight difference in my skin but I am still battling enlarged pores, congestion in the t-zone and my skin still isn't smooth and supple. What can I do to improve my skin so I feel comfortable approaching potential customers? And how important is it for a esthetician to have excellent skin in order to gain clientele?

Hi Adrain I too used Bioelements when I got out of school 4 years ago I never saw much difference in my clients skin I believe that Bio is a safe product to use when your learning down fall for that product is retailing there product its very expensive for the client to buy . I use Skin Script rx products which I totally love Lisa's products are awesome and I get wonderful results from treatments I do with this product for ance, anti-aging, and Hyperpigmentation. I just turn 60 and most of my clients never guess i'm that age. They just look at my skin and say I want skin just like yours whatever your doing I want it too (-:

You definitely want to look your best but we are human and we will get a breakout here and there!  Just getting on a good home care regimen and doing professional peels will help you.  I have very similar skin type, combo skin, clogged tight pores, that tend to breakout...and here is what I have recently changed.  You need to give yourself at least 2-3 onths on a consistent regimen to get clear.

Check makeup for pore cloggers and anything else you use and leave on your skin.

I am using skin scripts primarily and here is my routine

AM

Glycolic Cleanser daily (or sometimes the green tea cleanser)

Mandelic Scrub from Face Reality Acne (2-3xs a week)

Blemish pads

Ageless Serum (has hyaluronic acid) and vitamin C serum

Light alow moisturizer

Sun block

PM

Blemish Cleanser that has salicylic in it

Glycolic Retinol pads to tone

Mandelic serum or Vitamin A serum (vit a will help keep pores clear, mandelic will help with blemishes)

Benzoyl peroxide a few times a week

Agelsss moisturizer

I have cut most dairy out of my diet, it clogs up my skin and changed my makeup to purminerals 4-1

I have also been consistent with water intake and taking daily fishoil supplements and zinc for breakouts.

Hope this helps.

Basically you need some exfoliation and hydration.  I am not sure what your exact regimen is.  Pores are not going to shrink necessarily (they do not open and close) but you can reduce the appearance by keeping them exfoliated and clear of dead sticky skin cells...

I personally have the same skin issues as you do. Definitely oily in my t-zone and sometimes even my cheeks. I personally don't love Bioelements, but have worked with it in the past. I use Skin Scripts and Sanitas for personal and professional use.

I alternate between a Lemon Cream Cleanser and Glycolic cleanser from Sanitas

Tone with a 5% Glycotoner which really helps to exfoliate gently and helps with my pores, but I don't use this daily as it will dry me out.

I moisturize at night with a Vita K serum that is made for oily skin. I think over-drying is a huge issue in skin care as it WILL produce more oil.

During the day I use a drying lotion by Sanitas that I LOVE because it helps heal current breakouts, prevent future and reduce oil throughout the day and then top that off with a vitamin C moisturizer.

I love Skin Scripts Retinol scrub about 3 times a week and then I get Microderms at my spa at least once a month. Chemical Peels are great, but I get irritated easily by them for some reason.

I think that proper makeup is essential as it needs to cover well but not look cakey. I use Laura Marcier mineral makeup.

Sanitas is great as well!  I used them in school.  Only problem is the min order :(.

Thank you everyone for your advice and feedback I will most definitely be looking into skin scripts

I think we definitely have an image to uphold when it comes to our skin.  I've had people tell me, 'wow, you have beautiful skin'.  I have answered, thank you, would you trust me if I didn't?  I think we have to be walking examples of what we can accomplish for people with our treatments and products.

I have so many sunspots and I'm only 38. I hate it because I want to be an example for my clients and I don't feel like a good one with all these spots. I've reduced the apperance as much as I could.

Since we all have different genes, hormones, diets etc. ( some out of our control) do not let your skin step in front of what you do. Of course the more you learn and use different products as well as newer technology you will see your skin improve. Bioelements is a decent line in some ways especially for those with no skin conditions. If you never had a breakout then it is easier to say certain things and be in industry. I think having skin conditions can be in your favor in this industry ...again in certain ways. Try a more active line like others mentioned. Watching the makeup you use on face is so IMPORTANT with this type ( I have it) and getting or going to an esthetic or skin professional yourself.

Using steam to or a warm wash cloth and taking off all makeup at night along with icing after ( Steam only 2x a week) will help make pores appear smaller. Use a good primer and foundation and accentuate your eyes or lips. There is a peel from Iskyn ( Pumpkin peel) that helps with congested skin and breakouts along with Mandelic acid helped my skin. Keep your skin hydrated and don't over exfoliate. Just enough to get id of dead skin and dull skin so the fresh skin appears and slowly but surely your skin will change.

Thank you very informative I'm going to look into iskyn
Please email info@iskyn.com if we may answer any questions :)
