Does anyone have an opinion on using SD alcohol in skincare? It seems to be a hot button topic and people are very split. From what I have researched it seems that SD alcohol is a skin irritant no matter how it is formulated. I see it in toners for oily skin or acne prone skin. I've heard how its great for oily skin and then I hear from other sources that its no good and can make oily skin produce more oil. Any thoughts?

Hi Jessica!  I wouldn't trust someone saying that solvent alcohols are "great" for anyone's skin, however they can be a highly expedient way to make sure that ingredients remain in solution.  Remember the alcohol itself evaporates very quickly, but the other ingredients (or possibly industrial contaminants within the alcohol) remain on the skin.  A lot of times, if you made a toner out of the ingredients you wanted with just water and no alcohol, you would see separating or crystallization of your performance ingredients.  I would just consider their placement on the ingredient deck as you evaluate whether to use or carry a product.
