I have heard that as you get older sebum production slows down. I recently read in the Skin Inc. magazine that this is not true and that as you get older the dryness is due to a decrease in the skin's NMF. Which makes sense but do you now treat the client with products for dry skin, if they supposedly have the same amount of sebum production?

  1. what is NMF?
googled it, Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF)

It would make sense to treat it as dehydrated vs. dry then.  Use hyaluronic acid or something of that nature.

This article explains it well.  It basically says cleansing removes NMF and suggests using humectants suchs HA, glycerin, dimethicone, etc. http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/2010/03/chemistry-of-skin-nat...
