So I rent a room Wed-Saturday for $600/month. All of the furniture, equipment, and decor are mine, to the tune of a few thousand dollars worth of investment. A while back, another esty joined our group, and the owner asked if it would be okay to have her in my room (she's only there one day a week). I'm not the best at sharing, and I'm very particular, but I said fine. This girl came in with nothing, and I let her know to start out that she needed to get all of her own things, but in the meantime she could use some space in my cabinet.
Turns out this one-day-a-weeker is not on the same page as I am when it comes to cleanliness. Every week I come in to wax all over my cabinet and countertop, floor, carpet, and bed. Candle wax on my end tables, a beautiful candleholder burnt and partially melted, trash on the floor, trash in the can with no bag, dirty implements on the counter, hand towels haphazardly thrown onto a shelf. It's a bunch of small things that keep recurring and adding up and pissing me off to no end. I feel absolutely offended that the person who I've allowed into my space is disrespecting it so much. I told the owner a few times that she needed to mention something to the girl, but it keeps happening. What do I do?
It's going on 6months and she still hasn't brought in her own light, cabinet, cleaning supplies or anything. I don't think she understands the concept of booth renting, as she had just come from a commission based salon. What do I do? I feel like I'm putting up with more than I should, considering the rent I'm paying. I'm not a maid, and I feel like I should be able to come in to work and go, not worry about wiping down counters and vacuuming before my clients arrive.
I hate this with a passion! I agree with Samantha! Keep a record and make a bulleted presentation. Let the owner know exactly what you expect and stand your ground. Take pictures. Document the space as unsanitary per state law and let the owner know she is in violation. Be firm set a date. BE SPECIFIC!!!!
Also, I started locking my own stuff up in a cart. It's not your job to help her business, she must have a kit or something. Keep a locking, rolling cart and use it. It helped me immensely!
I already lock up all my product, but my mag lamp and towel warmer, wax pot and some larger things get left out. She uses my table and mag lamp, and I think I just figured out that she's also using my ipod and Bose stereo dock. These are all things that would be a pain in the ass to lock up every week, and frankly I shouldn't have to.
I made the owner walk through the room with me, and verbally acknowledge every thing I was upset about. She promised to talk to the girl again (though I'm not sure if she's ever had a conversation, considering nothing has changed before when I've had her say something), but I also left a short and polite note reminding her to clean up after herself.
Came into work today to find a note apologizing, but once again... there was white powder on one of the black side tables, and a second candleholder has been melted. I'm not even sure how that's happening...I've used them every single day for almost a year and I've never done it. Apologies don't clean my room and keep my things nice. I've decided to give it one more week, and if anything is askew next week, I'm going to demand that she moves into another room.
Good for you! There is nothing worse than being miserable at work! I agree, mag lamps and wax pots are darn hard to lock up! Keep us posted!
Hi Kim!
Do you know what is the website to find the room for renting. Please help.
Agnes
If you have a contract that states you rent the room for $600 that should be turn key.. It seems like it will come down to she goes or you do........Stand up for yourself, I agree with Samantha & Amy, your License is on the line, that's your livelihood no one should interfere with.
