Sink in tx room - CA

Can anyone give me an answer on this?  I was on hold for 40 minutes with the CA state board and got transferred into la la land  :(

Oh well.

I am opening a small skin care establishment. It will have 4-5 treatment rooms and I'm trying to find out if they MUST have a sink in the tx room in California (for estheticians... I know the massage and other non cosmo licensed people don't have to have one)

I've always worked without a sink, but I was never sure if it was OK.  My sink was outside of my tx room.  I took hot water inside in a thermos and after each treatment I took out the used items and washed and disinfected them.

It worked very well for me, and I liked not having the noise of the sink in the room.

Anyone have info on this?

I know this doesn't answer your question but I worked for years without a sink in the room and now that I have one I don't know how I lived without it! It is so nice to just get fresh clean water whenever I need it. I'm in OK and had a small sink installed for around $500. You might want to at least have one for your room:)

I agree with Nicole, I'm working in my first room with a sink and it's great.  I can wash my hands to make sure I have all product off before moving on to the next step, have fresh water when needed to mix products, or just rinse sponges, etc.  I also like that I can wash my hands in front of the client so they know I did it.  I don't know if it's required by any state, but I worked for 3 years in PA without one, and now that I have one, I love it!

There are portable sinks that you can buy but they are pretty pricey.

Our state says that you need to have a sink in the facility, but it is ambiguous as to whether it is required in each room.

So - my old space had a sink in the bathroom and the kitchen. In my treatment room my "sink" consisted of a stainless steel bowl and a thermal vacuum dispenser that I would put warm water in to dispense during treatment. I have no idea how people cleanse without water to help emulsify the cleanser.

Anyway - the inspector had no problem with my set-up. But I am not in Calif.

I have heard similar stories to mine from estheticians in other states.

Before I had a sink, I always brought a bowl of water in with me, but after dipping my hands in after cleansing, it wasn't good for much else.  I like the idea of a dispenser to hold and dispense clean water.  I was just so happy when I saw my new room and saw the sink, I think I did a little dance.

I'm in California. I'm almost positive that you just need a sink with hot and cold water in the facility. Look under establishment permit and license on the CA cosmo board.
