Skin Born Ultrasound
I recently purchased a SkinBorn Microdermabrasion S-100 and it came with a SkinBorn Ultrasound hand-held unit. No manual. Can anyone tell me what can be expected using ultrasound. The esty that sold it said she used it to cool the skin down after micro's. I thought it would actually increase the metabolism of the skin but I am not sure. Can anyone give me an idea of how they use theirs and do you use a gel for glide with serum underneath? Appreciate any advice. Thank you..

Not sure what state you reside or are licensed to practice esthetics, but in LE's in California are not allowed to use ultrasound in thier practice.

Hello Ray: Thank you for your input. In Florida, licensed Estheticians can use High Frequency, Galvanic & Ultrasound currents. They are legal for the esty here. My unit is a small hand-held and I think probably about 1mhz. I am conservative in my practice and of course don't use anything on a client unless I am confident about what I am doing. But like I said....thanks for your concern.

The 1mhz setting on an ulrasound machine is to be used ONLY on the body (and not the bony parts like the sturnum). Perhaps you meant that you use only the 3 mhz for the face. You could get away with using a 2mhz on the fleshy parts of the face. I know it seems counterintuitive, but the 1mhz is FAR too strong to use on the face, whereas the 3mhz is okay. Hope this information is helpful.

Where is the information on ultrasound not being allowed by estheticians in California available. I am unaware of any such restriction.

First, I apologize for any replies sent directly to an individual! I'm new to the discussion board and I wasn't paying attention. regarding the whereabout of any 'information' pertaining to what we can or cannot use as estes in Calif, there is none. There is no manual or handbook other than the scope of practice which can be found on the State Board of Barbering and Cosmotology website. Specific to the usage of 'ultrasound', I submitted an email question to our State Board if such a modality could be used by estes in CA and their response to me was "no", because it was a medical device! I still have a copy of that email if you care to view it. Now, is it possible there is confusion with the word 'ultrasound' when people are meaning 'ultrasonic' (which we can use)!

Yes Nondy, you are correct. Than would you say that it would depend on the class type of the modality and degree of frequency that may be out of our reach as estheticans? Thank you!
