Hi everyone,

I am a newly licensed esthetician and I am going to be self-employed renting a room at a salon starting in the fall.  I would like to get some input/advice from seasoned estheticians about a skincare line to use in treatment room and possibly retail.  I have a couple of different ones in mind but would greatly appreciate any information/input.  I would prefer a cosmeceutical line.

Thanks!!

Kim

I am sure you are going to get tons of opinions based on this question!  I personally like Jan Marini.  Just my 2 cents worth.  Not sure what their minimum order is though (as i didn't order the product) when i worked there.

Hi Kimberly, I use dermalogica and am very pleased with it. It sells itself. There education program is excellent I have learned so much through them. Good luck trying to choose it not easy to pick so many great products to choose from. But a more well known one is a lot easier to sell theretail and there is great money there. I had customer come in last week for a facial and bought $300 worth of product. 50% of that is in your pocket.

I am new as well and I am using the Glotherapeutics and I really like the line and am getting great feedback fro customers that has purchased products.  They do not have a min order but they have first time buying incentive programs depending on what you want to spend.  I think their prices are pretty reasonable.  I have also used Sanitas in school, which has a $1500 min first order and I have used Image as well which I know people use and love....their prices are also pretty affordable and no min order.  I think the best thing is buy some products from the different lines that you are considering and try them out...if you like them then you will be more passionate about using them on your clients.  Good luck, this was the hardest thing that I had to decide when I opened my business (only 5 weeks ago)...it is very overwhelming.  I chose glo because I needed a facial line as well as a line with good peels and corrective treatments.  Their products all smell pretty great and they are effective.  Keep us posted with what you choose. :)

I actually do use the Image Vital C line in my back bar and it smells wonderful!  They really do have great products as well as the other Estheticians have stated.  I have a girlfriend using it with her clients.  I do like the  simplicity of the retail and their travel sizes are awesome.

Stay strong, the first two years are the hardest. I'm just in the business two years and things are looking up. Keep in touch,

I have used Circadia, Dermalogica and CosMedix and I really like them all.  The CosMedix peels are wonderful, not harmful to the skin and repair from the inside out but are definitely effective.  Their retail products are also very effective.   I agree with Jennifer, the Dermalogica education is the best continuing education I have come across and it's free if you carry the line.  Good luck!  Let us know what you pick!

Skin Script!

The product line is outstanding , great customer service, great marketing support and reasonable price.

No minimum order and only $5.00 shipping no matter the quantity.

You should check it out before making a decision.

G*** luck with everything.

Welcome, Kimberly and much success to you in your new venture.  I am newly licensed as well since September of last year and am loving it!  The first few months were a little trying - so many things to think about.  But now that I'm settled and the clients are starting to be consistent, it's much better.  I am renting a room as well.  I've researched so many different lines, and chose Image Skincare for many reasons.  Tried a few of their products and was hooked after I used their Ageless Total Facial Cleanser!  Wow! My face had never felt so clean!  There is no minimum order, customer service is wonderful, they only sell to licensed aestheticians and physicians, and my clients are loving the product.  It's very affordable as well even with the high % of active ingredients.  They also have good local training.  Check them out at imageskincare.com.  Good luck!

Hi Kim!

I have been a medical aesthtetician for 9 years and have worked with MANY skincare lines. I think for starting out that IMAGE Skincare is a great pricepoint, there is something for everyone, their peels are awesome, they are considered a pharacuetical line (pure ingredients with great results), and no minimum order.

Way better than Dermalogica and they don't force you to carry their entire line or theirs exclusively.Worth checking out!

I love PCA…see we ALL have our fav's…its really up to you to decide…educating yourself is key….I am in the same situation as you so I feel your pain girl ;)

Thank you all for your input.  I was told yesterday by an esthetician I met that she also likes Image.  I have been to the website and I like the fact that you can only purchase from the company.  So many lines are available online for discounted prices on various skincare websites and it concerns me these products may be old.  Thank you all again and I would love any other information y'all can offer in the future.

I use and sell Jan Marini and they only sell to physicians and esthicians, so when I learned one of my clients bought it on Amazon way cheaper then the suggested retail price I was really disappointed. There is no way that the company can police this type of thing and it's sad that there are people out there undercutting us, but it happens. Just thought you'd like to know, if there's a will, there's a way. ):
