I'm a Licensed Esthetician that recently moved to another state. I was working in Toledo, Ohio at a large salon and was spoiled by a steady flow of walk-ins and people to convert into the facial room. I started working at a skin studio in Ann Arbor, MI last year as a receptionist in hopes of building a clientele. The other Esthetician is the owner and takes most first time clients for herself. I have now moved to the area but I'm still having a hard time meeting people and getting them into the studio to see me. I have my cards on me all the time and I'm always promoting myself to people I meet. I would like to run a groupon, but the owner would not like any coupons offered to new clients as she feels it brings in people who will not be consistent. I'm not sure what to do at this point. 

I would like any ideas on how to build a clientele after moving. 

 

(also I still don't know anyone in this area really, so using my friends to help isn't an option)

Try and move to a place that will allow you to get clients. Try and find a place that really wants an esthy and not just a receptionist. It sounds like the owner doesn't really want you as an an esthy.

 

I can understand the owner not wanting a Groupon. There is a very real reason not to do deeply discounted services. Most of the people really are just looking for the cheapest deal and will not return for full price services. Good chance there will be no tip or very little tip. It can ultimatly cost you more than you get for doing a groupon. Be aware that you don't get the money for groupon/Living Social coupons until after you have performed the services, maybe months after you have performed the services.

 

 The best thing is to find a place where they really want an esthy and you can work as an esthy.
