Hello fellow estheticians,
So I just recently moved to Wyoming from Illinois and in the process of getting my license here in Wyoming. I learned I have to do a state practical exam since it was not required to take in IL (as long as we passed the school practical exam).
We are required to bring A LOT of our supplies we will be using. Anyways, my question to those of you that did a state practical exam (and it may sound stupid)...what kind of simulated wax did you use and where did you get it from?
Any other advice or info regarding the exam is very much appreciated! I am so nervous but I know I'll be fine. :-)
Thanks!!

Thanks Angel!! I emailed the board and asked a few questions about some of the supplies. I did some research and saw there are pre-made and labeled state board exam kits you can purchase. Thinking about getting one if it is acceptable to bring (which I don't see why it shouldn't be).
Lauren, welcome to Wyoming. I just moved here about year and half ago from Northern Virginia/Washington DC area. I have been thinking of setting up my own little shop in town.
I am also required to take a practical here in Wyoming since my license from VA was a Grandfathered esthetician License. I have been in the industry for over 6 years, so I am pretty confident I will do fine, but still anxious on what to expect. Did you end up buying a pre-made kit or making your own with your own supplies? I am pretty sure I can put together my own kit since I brought most of my equipment and supplies with me, but I was thinking maybe just buying a pre-made one would be easier for the sake of stress and time. Did you bring a live model or mannequin to your practical? Did they require hard wax portion? It would be so helpful if you gave me some in-sight on what you experienced and what I should expect, or if anyone else may have some advice or sites I should look into that would be great!
I used hair gel, another used honey, we put it in little container. All they are watching is application. You just want something that cleans back off easily.
Take a few extras of some things-just in case you drop.
I put together my own kit-all I needed to purchase was small containers, and baggies.
I took mine in Texas, proctors didn't watch those that looked like we knew what we were doing.
Hello,
I am not from Wyoming but I just wanted to add another option for the wax. I used petroleum jelly in a small plastic container for the wax portions of my practical.
Good luck to you.
