Hello All!

I was asked by my 6 yr olds teacher if I would come to her class and tell the children about what I "do for a living" when my daughter is "star for a week" in February.  My girl knows what I do, and has had experience with it, but I am at a loss on how to present it to her classmates. Have  any of you, or someone you know, written a book or article, or spoken publicly with children concerning skincare?

Ani input would be greatly appreciated.

Little girls love anything girlie. I'd talk about the fun facials you do- and pampering. At 6, they aren't really comprehending skin care- I wouldn't even go into that too much, except to say it's important to take good care of our bodies and skin... you could talk about the field in general- how you can become, saym a makeup artist and other things. I have an 8 year old in our family who, whenever she comes with her mom to get any services done, always goes home and sets up a fancy spa boutique to give "services" to her family members. LOL She gets inspired every time!

Maybe even do a little hand massage on each of them and explain how important a good touch is in our business...

I'm just throwing out thoughts here- definitely not an expert! just my initial instinct....

Gina, thanks for the input, and I will add that to the list of items to include.  I plan on handing out little sachets of sunscreen with my business card atached to it so they can give it to their parents.

I also had a client mention that I should also talk with them now about the importance of sunscreen now while they are so young. And to make sure I mention that I do have "boys" who come see me for services  :O)    Her teacher said I may wish to mention the importance of never making fun of someone who has pimples, because it may hurt their feelings.

You might share some Fun Skin Factoids with the class and make a "hand out" for them to take home and share with their family with short tid bits of information such as:

A recipe for a mask or other product they can make at home and use
What to do for minor cuts, scrapes and burns
How often you need to apply sunscreen while swimming or playing
Ingredients to avoid when choosing bath products for children

As I was laying awake just the other night, a thought struck me as to what I can do to help the 6 yr old children become interested in talking about skincare and suncare. Silly me!! Why did I not automatically think about my skin scanner? Its not just for the spa anymore! lol   I will be taking it on the road, so my daughters classmates can see what  "old, damaged" skin looks like compared to theirs! My daughter told me that boys said that sunscreen is just for babies! WHOAH!!!!!! NOT, lol. SHE informed me " I told them if they don't want cancer, they HAD to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat"!   {I have taught my young progeny well!}   So, I am going to let them all see each others, and their own skins in this scanner, and send them home with some great samples for them and their familes, along with the "There's an app for that!" so parents can take pics of suspect skin issues and get answers for it!

Any thoughts?

How fun....I think you got some great advice. I did a spa b'day party for my daughter when she turned 10. My girlfriends helped me to paint the girls nails while I gave facials to the girls. It was a lot of fun! Girls definitley love all that pampering stuff. ;0)
