I just recently moved to a new area. The population size and demographics are fairly different from my previous town. This town has a lot of retirees, many are affluent though some are not. For those of you who have been at this profession longer than me who do you find your ideal, target market should be? Do women in their 60's+ get a lot of facials? Waxing? I plan to have my own studio here and am thinking through which direction to go. Any input would be welcomed.

Anyone? Do we have active members who can share their experience on this topic please?

Christina, My studio is not quite 3 years old now. It is amazing how many women I have in their 60's, 70's, and yes, a few in their 80's! The women in their 60's who are still working seem most concerned about anti-aging and facial hair. The women in their 70's who are fairly affluent want to look good and are willing to spend their money on good quality products and re-book regularly. Women in their 80's like to be pampered- a facial is a treat.

I am in my late 50's so I relate well to the post menopause crowd when they come in. That being said, the moms who bring their teen daughters in to me feel confident I will help their girls. I end up getting 2 customers!

Be confident in your products, ingredients, and techniques and I think you will find the "older" crowd will rely on you to keep them looking their best! Good luck!

VERY helpful. Thank you so much!

I agree with the two previous writers, My business mostly comes from 50,60,70,80 year olds. I am 63 and appreciate that older people can come during daytime hours (I open at 9am by appointment). But I do offer 2 evenings a week (usually booked) and every other Saturday (which I rarely have booked). That age group is loyal if you take good care of them and give them results. I am going into my 3rd year in business in my one practitioner business and I also am a Reiki Master and Nationally certified Reflexologist which fills out my schedule nicely. I also do a bit of body waxing for the 30 and 40 year olds with kids. They and their children get facials too but more randomly and I offer a teen facial that is heavy on skincare education. Also mommas and grandmas buy gift cards for their stressed out daughters! Love my work! Good Luck on your new adventure Christina!
