I have a salon built in my home that is really nice to have. While I have a good set of clientele I would really like to grow! What advice do you have to help me build my clientele base? Any tips are appreciated!

Hey kylee I am also in the same situation although i dont have a great setup at home yet.  One thing i just tried was going onto the moms groups on facebook and posting a special.  I am also thinking of going to businesses in the area and offering a free service to manager to help promote.  Let me know if you find something that works

Sarah, I love that idea too! I think I'm in an area where there are mom's with the extra money to spend. Thanks for your response!

That's such a good idea to have your friends help you keep up with your skills. A nice stay-in ladies night would be fun and educational as I think a some girls don't know EXACTLY what I do. Do you have your clients sign a waiver stating they give permission to have you use their pictures?

I am new to this field but I am not new to building a book of business or establishing a clientele. Here are some specific ideas that may help you:

1. Join your local BNI group (Business Networkers International). Some areas have local groups which are not affiliated with BNI. If you can find a group with 20+ members you will probably quickly gain several new clients once you become a member.

2. Create promotions around specific "holidays" such as nurse appreciation week, teacher appreciation, Mother's Day...find reasons to suggest your service along with gift certificates.

3. Join your local Chamber of Commerce and attend their functions. Join their "sub" groups if possible. In other words, build relationships.

4. I do not recommend the Moms groups that one member suggested. Unless, you live in an affluent area in which the Moms have an inordinate amount of expendable income. In my area, the Moms groups are dominated by young Moms who are not as concerned with aging skin issues. Also, being, in many cases, one income households they often are scrimping and not always flush with money for the "extras."

5. Of course, the ever ubiquitous LivingSocial or Groupon seems to be a driver for new clients these days

6. Call on local salons that don't offer spa services - hand out promotional items for your services to the stylists. Consider offering them a referral fee for sending a new client your way.

Just a few ideas....good luck. The home based treatment room is something I'd love to have myself. Take care :)

Thank you so much for all your tips Christina. You seem to have a lot of great ideas for building business...I understand what you are saying about the Mom groups. I'm lucky enough to live close to an area where these mom's have a little extra cash to spend...Number 6 seems to be a really great idea. I'm assuming those salons wouldn't mind providing a convienience to their customers. I was also thinking of reaching out to small bed & breakfasts in the area. . .what do you think about that? most of them in my area are larger homes that have extra bed rooms to offer to a few over night guests but I thought maybe that would give me a few more clients (although, obviously not regular)
