I will be relocating to Texas and would like to transfer my license but I found out that Texas requires 750 hours and I only have the 600 hours that is required in NC.  I was told that I could test out ....any suggestions only preparing for the retest and would I be required to do a hands on demo as well? Thanks for any information provided. SD Martin

Thanks Deborah......I have actually seen this link.  Do you have any advice on how to prepare for retesting? I have been in practice 8 years and I know things have changed...you were very considerate to respond to my question. I appreciate in any information you can provide.  Sylvia Martin

I'll look at home to see if I have the breakdown of question areas, threw alot of school stuff away, so might not have anything. the rules and regs book I have at work isn't too helpful! Seems like majority of questions were on sanitation practises though.

Thanks, I will go on line and see if there are some quick training programs I can visit.  Sylvia Martin

PS Have you looked at the free web sites......really easy to set up.....I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this, I was really impressed and have enjoyed this site as well.  Associated Skin Care Professionals is well worth the cost of membership.

Here is a link to the PSI exam bulletin - about 1/2 down it gives you the number of questions in each catagory'

I'd still write them a letter and give them all your info of 8 years experience, CE's, advanced training etc-worth a try since you have 3/4+ of required hours!

If you have to take it, might not hurt to purchase a TDLR rules and regs book as well.

Deborah's advice to contact the state board is spot on--you never know what's required unless you go directly to the source, so it's worth giving them a call to make sure you're clear on what will be required of you in the new state. They might also be able to give you some good suggestions on practice tests or other study resources if you do end up having to re-test!

And thanks for the ASCP kudos :-) Glad to hear you're getting so many good things out of your membership!

Abram,  Wow! Thank you for the great information you sent. You have given me locations and believe me things have changed a lot since I tested out in 2004. You and Deborah have been wonderful in  helping me obtain this much needed information.

Happy to help!

Just remembered that when I was in school 2010, I purchased an online Milday study quide-chapter tests and 100 question final you could take as many times as you wanted. Milday and Salon Fundamentals are two of the books that Texas uses. I pd about $30.00. Salon Fundamentals may have something as well.

Also, if you have to take a written -I'm sure you'd have to take a practical-they pd very little attention to the ones who acted confident-at least any time I looked at the proctors.

Deborah, you are a sweet heart and you are right about Miladys that is probably a good place to start.  I am not familiar with Salon Fundamentals but will check it out as well.  You have been great and I will take your advice.  You seem like nice person and I just know you have to be a really great esthetician.

Keep forgetting to ask, what area are u moving to?

Deborah,

I am moving to Scurry, Texas located about 30 miles outside of Dallas........my sister has a ranch and we have bought the house next to her ranch and plan to turn it into a B & B and horse rest.  Most of the people coming to the ranch will be riding horses, but I would like to be able to offer a nice relaxing facial beside the pool. I will be moving there in 21 months but will travel back & forth to North Carolina.  Check out her website, "Golden Curls Ranch" and if you are in the area you certainly have an open invitation to visit.  Sylvia Diane Martin
