Waxing over tattoo

I recently waxed my husbands arms..he has full sleeves(tattoo).  During the waxing and for hours after I noticed the inked parts of his arms looked raised and slightly swollen.  Has anyone else every had this happen?  I've waxed lower back tattoos with no reaction but never an area with that much ink....thanks!

Never noticed this before!  I did successfully identify tinea versicolor hiding behind a full back's worth of ink once.  It is important to check the health of tattooed skin since irregularities are often hidden.

I've never seen this either and have waxed over many tattoos.  Was it a more recent tattoo?

No he's had the tattoos for going on 15 years now.  I wax his chest and back and he never reacts to the waxing..it's just over the tattoos.
