Hi,

I'm in the process of opening a mini day spa called First Day Spa. It's by appointment only. Customers are required to book online. I plan on selling retail online and in person www.skinandnailcarebyessie.com( I'm building the website my self.... It's not quite finished yet)

I've contact the state board for a business lisence.
I've registered the fictisious name "First Day Spa"
I've contacted the department of revenue since I will be selling retail
I'll be joining SPCA this Friday ( to get liability insurance plus all of the extra perks

1st- a need help coming up with great price list - my skin & nail spa will be located in between the rich and the not so rich area in my city

2nd- I don't want any trouble with the Government... Who else should I be contacting before I open?

Lastly, go you have any tips to share to get more customers? Do you have any tip and/or advice for a new business owner?(anything will help)

I've attached a picture of the two rooms I'm interested in...
The first one the blue one is $350 (it's the size of a typical room) and the other is $450(the size of a suite/master bedroom Neither one has a sink or cabinet
-which one would you prefer? I will be performing both skin and nail care service.

Thank you in advance for your help :)

Sincerely,
Esther

Esther (you posted this in an open forum so I am replying with constructive advice)

First...  I looked at your site by accessing the link above.  Your site is way too busy.  Clean it up ok.  :) Pick the top 3 - 4 most important things you want your users to see and click and build around that.  Do not try to say everything all at once.

Here is an example....What you are doing with your home page is basically running up to me and frantically telling me as fast as you can all that you want me to know about you and all I am hearing is white noise because your talking so fast and its like a shot gun.

Also, make sure that you tell your web designer to center the 'WRAPPER' on the pages that are left justified since each header link jumps back and forth.  If you go to my site you will see what a clean and to the point site looks like.  Is it retail friendly...?... No!  But my company does not sell to retail.

Price list:  The first thing I would do is look at your menu of services and list all the products that you use during the treatment and then cost each out to the mL used.  Then know your basic cost for each treatment.  Then count the hourly rate you want and then look at overhead and then compare to other salons in your area.

Best advice I can give you:  Stop spending money in your personal life and save it for the rainy days ahead as you build your business and plan on living that way for 12 months.

Neither one has a sink or cabinet?  Look for a room that does.  Not having a sink for an estie is unprofessional.  You will be using water from a glass...right?  Not a good thing.

You will do great!

Thank you sooooo much! This was extremely helpful.

What was your website again?

I was trying to save money by not hiring a web designer. I used intuit to build the site. I truelly do appreciate your advice.
