Another silly topic for a rainy day! LOL

I have found that I don't really like to wear my nicer clothes in my treatment room... but I want to look nice.... and I am MOST comfortable and "myself" in a fun top, fun shoes, and jeans.

Is this a total "faux pas"?!?!

(I do wear a long black apron over whatever I'm wearing when I'm doing a treatment)

I've toyed with getting a "uniform", too, but I know I'd quickly tire of that.

Well, understanding that I am older...  Here are my thoughts.

Look the part.  If you want to be taken seriously, look like it.

If you do a lot of waxing, or you work in a funky, hip salon environment, you could get away with being more "casual" in your dress.  I draw the line at flip-flops, however.  No way, no how.

I wear all black, with button earrings or very tiny earrings, and usually it's silver.  No dangling earrings, and no bangle bracelets.  I had a facial once by a gla who wore 65 noisy bangle bracelets.  I almost was ready to run screaming from that place...  Hair neat and back/up, good posture, and my skin as great as I can get it to look, and I take great care with my makeup...

I buy all my work clothes at Ross/TJ Maxx...  I do not spend a ton of money on work clothes...

hth,

Define "older" Nondy.... I'm 40. haha!

I guess at this stage in my life, I know how to "look the part" and still be in jeans...

I feel like every salon puts their estys in all black, and they sort of meld into the backdrop and you barely remember them. I have a personality and I want to express it with my clients in my business- be "real" not just play a part. I will definitely wear artsy earrings. NOT bangles, however. haha! Definitely take time with the makeup and skin.

I appreciate the feedback b/c I am really interested in how everyone is approaching their personas!

"Older" as in I am 55.

What I want to project, more than anything, including my own personality, is trust...stability.  I want to instill in my client the sense that they are in great hands with me.  I don't know what environment you work in, and that would make a difference.  I work in a cosmetic surgery center, where jeans would never be okay to wear.  Nor would be dangly earrings.  Our clientele are there looking for face lifts, tummy tucks, breast augmentation...in other words SURGERY.  The seriousness of what we do in that environment is VERY different than in a salon environment.

you do NOT look 55!!! you go girl!!!!

My treatment room is inside a chiropractic office that is kind of casual, that also includes a massage therapist. More "holistic" vs. "surgical".  I wouldn't wear jeans every day- just once in a while- like on Saturdays, a common practice in salons.

I can definitely understand your need for a strong professional look in a very professional office.

You're very sweet, Gina.  I look forward to Senior discount day at Ross every Tuesday...  ;^)

I love getting that extra 10% off!  LOL!!  It's the little things...  Have a great rest of the week!

LOL!!!! it IS the little things!! you too! :-)
I work in a salon/day spa environment.  My favorite bottoms are knit-type bottoms in black, I feel they are great especially when i am massaging.  I replace them when they start looking too worn.  For tops, I pair them with a great TJMaxx top (usually a tank underneath so as to hide any cleavage that may show) and then some great shoes that give me a bit of a lift, but not too much.  I usually wear a necklace, but nothing clunky or one that is so low that it would interfere with facials/waxing etc.  I also have two smocks.  One is white and the other is black and white.  All the stylist wear black aprons so I set myself aside by wearing a smock instead.  The one thing that some people may or may not agree with me on, is that I work best with my shoes off in the treatment room.  It puts me in the mood for relaxation and my movements are more buffered that way.
I also take my shoes off a lot. I keep a little pair of fuzzy slip-on socks in black in my room.
I like the knit bottoms- sort of like yoga pants?

Yes, some are yoga pants.  I've paired them with cute summer dresses and I loved the look.  Others are more flowing pants.  Usually black, but I do have one pair of brown ones for a little change.

Gina - I also wonder about this.  My treatment room is in a separate room, but in my home.  I have been wearing black yoga pants or leggings and a nice (washable) top.  I have black aprons for waxing/tinting, I also have a cute white smock for skincare.  I have considered wearing scrubs if they didn't look like PJs on me.

For shoes,  I wear black flats or danskos.  I don't feel professional without shoes.  Also, stepping in wax would be pretty yukky.

Projecting a professional, yet approachable, image is important to me.

I love your questions, they are usually exactly what's on my mind.

Try the Greys Anatomy brand of scrubs! They are adorable and more fitted!!

I purchased a great pair of Yoga-type pants from Land's End.  They look great and they are very comfortable.  I also have a couple of pairs of nicer pants but these are my go-to pair.

I top with a short sleeve button-front blouse... I found a couple at Kohl's, or a colorful pull-on fancy fitted scrub top.  I have a waxing apron with bling but have not worn it as I am just now building waxing clientele.

I have both white and black nice esthetician jackets but since I am also an MT I don't often wear them.

I am a little older too.  I have a thing about wearing jeans - although there are nice ones out there, I just can't do it. :)

NIce black professional shoes - I sometimes wear sueded slip-ons.  Every once in awhile I slip my shoes off. But I have socks on - not barefoot.  I actually don't mind nicer sandals...but flip-flops are just too casual.
