Hi!

A girlfriend asked me if I'd speak to a group of teen girls about basic skin care and a few makeup tips/tricks this weekend. I'd like to make it a little extra special, but on a very short timeline, I'm hoping for some creative ideas. Help?!

Thanks in advance!

I am a health educator and I have worked with teens for over 10 years - aside from offering skin treatments for them.  One of the things that they LOVE to learn more about (they will be mesmerized when you start talking about it) is "hygiene".  These are a few things you can expand on: (you can google for more info if needed)

- hair care - ask THEM what they know and add to it.

- body exfoliation

- using cold/tepid water vs hot water and what that does for the skin

- talk about ears (I see lots of teens with deep blackheads in their ears because they don't wash them when they wash their hair

- sun protection

- proper bra use/sports bra for exercising!!!

- ingredients (basic)

- using natural deodorants so that their skin doesn't discolor

- legs: shaving, waxing, depilating?

- acne (hormones, food and the importance of NOT picking on the cysts)

- menstruation (pads vs tampons vs other products)

- body image/self esteem (http://www.about-face.org/) - if all else fails, this is the one you should go with & bring your laptop and and if there is wifi, find the DOVE campaign video on youtube

here are other websites that can offer some guidance AND some lesson plans to get ideas for your event:
