Hello Estys, I’m blessed to be relocating my business from a salon to a home-based business, but I’m wondering if my advertising style should change. While located at the salon, in order to generate business, I sometimes ran specials with companies like Living Social, plus I placed my brochures and flyers throughout the salon, but it’s my understanding that this option isn’t available for home-based businesses. What other types of advertisement (besides word of mouth) do you guys suggest? Thanks!

It takes time to develope loyal customers. Volunteer when you have free time at women's or teen shelters offering free skin treatments. These women and teens are in much need of this type of care. I did this when I first started over 9 years ago. You would be suprised at the number of employees at these places who will call you to book an appointment. Give and it will be given back to you and overflowing! Give away gift cert. at events and trade them with a massage therapist to get the word out.
I took some of my friends from school to these shelters as we had just graduated and a few of my friends were looking for work. I was waiting for more clients myself. We packed everything we needed in steril boxes after first making an appointment to meet the managers and sign in. They were delighted to meet us, set a date, and have us come help out! So rewarding!!

What a great idea for any esthetician no matter how busy you are! Helping those less fortunate through skin care/ make up advice is terrific. Love it! I am definitely going to look into how I can help people.
Pass your experience on to others in our field after you volunteer! There is a huge need out there to bring healiing to those less fortunate. We can help make the world a better place. Would love to hear what area you started out in this new adventure....
I started in the beginning advertising with my local newspaper and local church, which was more expensive than building my personal website. My website has provided all my new clients and they refer me business. ( friends, family, co workers)

Yes, I had two businesses in two different states ( Texas & Connecticut) both renting a couple of rooms in a hair salon, but due to my husband job change, this time out of our home and I love it.
Man, what a change (Texas and Connecticut)! LOL! Your website is nice and your work is impressive. We have a couple of neighborhood association newsletters that I hope to advertise in, but I’m still working on my home-based studio. I’m doing just about everything myself and it’s taking awhile, but I know it is worth it! The hard thing is trying to remain motivated during the process.
There is no reason you cant search the local salons to see if they have an esty. You would be surprised at how many salons do not have one. Talk with the salon owner/manager and work out referral issues with her or him.
