Actually no, here in VA. you don't have to.
But I always display any type licenses, certifications I have.
The more the better. I don't mean to decorate your walls--- but at least a few.
Thanks, I wish it was that simple here...
Congratulations Regina!!!
Heres a link to get your business license for a home salon..
http://www.michigan.gov/statelicensesearch/0,4671,7-180-24786_24788...
Its been 6 years since I opened my my home studio so processes change (so ask them for all the info necessary)but here are a few things I recall...
You will not receive your business license until the Health Department does a home visit to check that all procedures and regulations are being followed. A water source in the salon itself and secondary water source in the bathroom connected to the room you are working out of etc... If your water source is only in the bathroom, a case of bottled water in your salon is accepted) fire extinguisher, showing all your visible Esthetic and Cosmetology licenses framed on the wall, salon business insurance displayed. All towels and bedding kept in an enclosed cabinet. They will request a drawn floor plan of your salon. If you are not in a commercial area you cannot display signage visible to passing traffic. A little 8x 10 or smaller sign in your garden/ porch entrance pointing to the salon is ok. Make your home salon as professional as possible. The area clients will be in must be kept impeccable, no smells of cooking, pet hair and dirty dishes. Also make sure your parking situation will keep clients from parking on the street and interfering with the neighbors.
Good luck and welcome to home business!!!
Thanks so much for the information. I have been reading over the requirements for a few months now and I am ready to get started. I am glad to get the information from someone who has been thru the process. Can I ask you a few more questions... in regards to the room being separated by dividers an or partitions, are you using a separate room for your area? I wanted to use my front room but I would have to put some sort of divider to separate it from the dining area..any suggestions?
