Hi Everyone, I asked a question about safety, but I meant, how do you operate from home and still feel safe doing so? Do you run ads for your home spa businesses? How do you advertise your businesses? Do you service both women and men? Do you have a separate entry way into your businesses or do you have separate buildings on your properties? Please allow me to apologize ahead of time for asking so many questions, and thanks in advance for your assistance!

To work from home, you need to check your state law. Usually is required to have separate entry and bathroom, no common space between the house living space and the business space (ex.: no same hallway, no passing through living room...)

Regarding the clients, if you do not know them you take a risk. Home aestheticians have usually a very small business that go through family and friends. If it is bigger than that, there is your risk. Regarding the opposite sex...is a good idea to have a witness around (like at the dr. office) to not be exposed to assaults or reclamations of abuse or harassment.

Thanks for responding Loana, you made some valid points.

Not all states require separate entrance - you'll need to check your state's rules.  I started off by word of mouth and have built a good web presence.  I get a lot of new clients who find me on the web.  I've never had any issue with my safety (knock on wood) and take both female and male clients (although the majority are female).  I don't do intimate male waxing so that doesn't present a problem.  I find that people who want to come in for a service are interested in just that, the service.  They're not coming in to assault or steal.  That's not to say that  it will never happen, but I've been working from home for 5 years and have never had any issues.  Yes, I started with friends and built my business by word of mouth; but my business has expanded far beyond that.

Hi Teri, thanks so much for sharing. I'm waiting to hear from the zoning folks in my city, and I pray that I'm able to setup and move forward. I simply do not want to setup at another salon, at least not anytime in the near future. Thanks again!
