Laura, I do mine the same way you do. I believe it is not recommended to do the peel following the micro as the skin will be irritated. When you do the peel first, it get's into the pores and clears out the dead skin cell build up and then you can "polish" the epidermis off with the micro.
Thanks Brenda. That's what I thought as well, but I heard other people mentioning doing it the other way around and warning clients about down time. Not sure what I think about doing it that way yet, guess I'll have to do a lot of research to decide for myself!
Agree, unless you have diamond tips.
and you use the Vivite' peels or Image peels.
I have always done the peel first for the past 8 years. I learned this from Advanced Rejuvenating Concepts...they have great peels and this is what they recommend although I do have some long time tough clients that like a very aggressive treatment and I will do the peel after the micro...they realize that there will be some downtime and hot spots on the skin.
Hi, I have been micro/ peel combos in my practice and I actually do the micro first then the peel. I believe releasing that top layer of cells with microdermabrasion first is beneficial for the peel to be more effective. However, I am using DermaSweep microdermabrasion machine.... which is a a nylon tip wand. It is very comfortable to get the treatment yet very effective. I use an anti-aging skincare line called NuSkin and the peel is a 10% Lactic Acid. So both treatments are mild on the own, but together I get great results with no excessive redness or irritation! Clients love that their skin looks great when they walk out the door and they don't have "that look" like they've had a micro/peel.
Janet, I realize I may be late replying to this posting but how much did you pay for your DermaSweep machine? Does it come without crystals? I like how you said it is very comfortable but very effective..That's how my approach is when it comes to treating my clients.
Katrina, My machine was 4995.00 It is not crystal or diamond tip, but Nylon bristle Technology.
Thanks
I have always done the micro first thus removing the top dead layers allowing the peel to penetrate deeper and more evenly. Keep in mind that you would not be as aggresive with micro, but are utilizing more to create your perfect canvas
I do both in my treatment room. If I want a deeper peel I do microderm first and if I want a lighter peel I do the microderm afterwards to polish the skin. My peels are 30% glycolic and 20% Lactic. I do not do any salicylic or TCA after mircro. I took an advanced peel class and this is what was recommended.
Usually this comes down to the way you have been taught...and what type and strength peel you are doing, usually the first time that you are shown is the way you will most likely do
but common sense tells me (been doing this for 20yrs)... clean canvas first (light microderm) nothing too strong... then the peel... you won't have any dead skin cells blocking peels performance .... and you get better result... some peels now have numbing effect so it is more comfortable for the client...
To me it seems like if you do the peel first ... which some you leave on for a min 4hours and don't wash off while client is on your table anyway... you would just be manipulating the layers and getting uneven result.
I have had great results doing it this way and the clients come and do several more because they see a difference in there skin.
