Pennsylvania laws regarding Laser Treatments

Does anyone know the current laws governing what type of spas/salons can offer laser treatments? Must the salon/spa have a Dr on premises at all times? Must they be a medical spa with a Dr license attached to the practice? Does anyone know if this is going to be changing in the near future? I'm not sure where to research this data. I know most laser certifications are done by the laser company themselves. If anyone knows where in all the Cosmetology laws this is spelled out, please provide the link. Thank you.

Pennsylvania cosmetology does not license estheticians to perform laser treatments. Laser equipment is only able to be purchased with a medical license (doctor) and therefore an esthy can perform treatments if they are working under a physician. Cosmetology law does not allow esthetics licensed salons/treatment rooms to provide laser treatments. Laser treatments must be performed in a medical licensed facility. Pa law has not changed yet regarding a physician being on site during treatments, but moat medical skin lines and laser companies won't sell or open an account unless there is a physician in the facility. (Ie. Not just once per month) laser falls under the state board of medicine regulations, perhaps they could give you the info you are looking for.

I was just wondering, as I am seeing so many regular salons offering this service and I'm just wondering how they can legally do this. I saw a link today from what is basically a hair salon offering laser hair removal.

For a hair salon to legally do it, the laser room must be used soley for laser and licensed as a medical room. The only way to do skin care and laser un the same room is if its all licensed as a medical facility, then cosmetology law doesn't apply.

Thanks. No idea how they are set up, but got the email and thought, wait a minute...I hope consumers educate themselves on where they get these things done.
